Automated meter reading and reporting
Spirax Sarco MeterCom II entry-level meter reading and reporting software simplifies and improves energy management by automatically monitoring steam and other utility meters such as gas, oil, water and air, or any pulsed or 4-20mA output meter.
MeterCom II enables companies to continuously monitor consumption without the burden of having to tour the plant to collect data manually.
The software can automatically generate daily, weekly or monthly reports, enabling consumption trends and the cost of consumption to be tracked for individual meters as well as the whole plant. Daily reports help to identify leaks or other problems rapidly, allowing immediate, energy saving remedial action.
Automatically generated bar charts can reveal base load changes caused by leaking equipment or underground pipes, or equipment left switched on unnecessarily. For example, unexpected steam consumption during a machine’s downtime may indicate an unrecognised leak, enabling immediate repairs.

Key features
Automatic data collection
Automatic reporting
Powerful trend analysis
Historical trending
Optional multiple trending
Utility consumption in local currency
(Sterling, Euro, etc.)
Secure data logging
Intuitive and easy to use
Key reasons
Data is collected and logged to a Microsoft
Access database every 15 minutes
Provides consumption and statistical data on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
The trending tool takes flow rate samples every two seconds. High resolution traces of daily trends can be displayed and analysed
Graphical reports in .pdf format show bar charts of daily, weekly or monthly consumptions for time spans of up to two years
Allows trends from two different time periods to be overlaid
Energy costs can be attributed easily to individual departments, buildings or production lines
All data is logged regularly to a Microsoft
Access database on the hard drive
Easy to navigate screens
Key benefits
Saves costs and guarantees regular meter reading by eliminating labour-intensive manual data collection
No need to manually collate information and compile reports, saving time and costs, and reducing the risk of manual errors
Quickly highlights process faults by showing abnormal supply loads, enabling rapid resolution and minimising energy loss. Trend features such as peak loads can be directly associated with process sequences
Immediately shows increases in base loads indicating equipment left on or leaks. Also reveals quickly the impact of energy saving initiatives, helping to focus time and resources on the most successful actions
Helps identify the most energy efficient practices by comparing operator methods, such as times when machines are started, or whether a machine is switched off during breaks
Encourages individuals and departments to take energy saving more seriously
Eliminates the risk and costs of lost meter readings with data securely archived and available to other applications
Minimises operator errors and reduces training costs
Networking capability Facility to connect directly to an existing corporate network
Reduced installation costs
Daily reporting means companies no longer have to wait until a bill arrives to see if a poorly controlled process or an undetected leak is costing money.
Graphical reports immediately show increases in base loads, indicating equipment left on or leaks. Also quickly reveals impact of energy saving initiatives.
A typical installation, with data acquisition units included as standard. The system can be customised to suit particular user requirements.

• To allocate energy costs by department, with the aim of reducing energy use.
• To show the impact of new and remedial energy-saving actions.
• To identify base load variations (leaks, valves left open, machinery left on).
• To save time collecting and collating data into meaningful reports.

Type 1 and Type 2 systems are available in multiples of 8 meters, up to a maximum of 24 meters. More channels can be added to installed systems to allow for plant expansion.
• Data units to convert the 4-20mA and pulse signals into TCP/IP for transmission over an Ethernet are included in the price.
These can retrieve data from up to eight meters each. If these units can be easily fitted into a convenient existing panel, with a 24Vdc power supply available, then no other components are required.
• In some applications there will be a need to supply one or more panels containing power supplies, field terminals and wiring, depending on the layout of the plant.
• Each application needs to be individually assessed and either a panel made by the customer/contractor as part of the installation, or a panel supplied by Spirax Sarco will need to be included.
• Commissioning service available.
