You are about to take part in an event which we expect will re-define the mass participation cycle sport scene in the UK and we really hope you enjoy the experience. We have gone to great lengths to create an event experience which gives the masses and many of our competitive elite level riders a real taste of what the best organised events around the world are like for amateurs and professionals alike. Our vision is to create a pro experience for everyday amateur and Masters riders. We are planning for the Tour of Cambridgeshire to be held up alongside the Etape du Tour, the Maratona and the Cape Town Cycle Challenge as the must do events in the world in terms of the experience of competing in a technically excellent event on closed roads in a fully produced spectacle. We are delighted that both the Gran Fondo and Chrono are UWCT events in 2015. We hope to host the UCI World Amateur Championships within this decade thereby facilitating the opportunity for everyday riders in the most vibrant cycling nation on earth the opportunity to compete for a rainbow jersey on home soil. The Enervit Tour of Cambridgeshire is not just about the riders at the front of the age classifications; it is about providing that same professional experience for the masses, people who love their cycling but do not have the taste or the appetite for the cut and thrust of a race. The ToC is for you too. The opportunity to experience the spectacle on fully supported closed roads is a rare treat in the UK. We do hope you all enjoy a safe positive experience riding the ToC whether in the Chrono or the Gran Fondo and that you tell your friends about it. Finally we would like to offer thanks to all of those organisations who have partnered with us to create something unique on the British landscape including Cambridgeshire County Council who backed us from the very beginning as part of their Tour de France legacy. We do hope we do you proud. UWCT Corporation The UCI World Cycling Tour is very happy to have the Tour of Cambridgeshire as one of our qualifier events for the 2015 UCI Amateur World Championships. In fact, we were already looking for a few years to a strong event in the UK to include in the series. Britain has in recent years been very successful in professional cycling with Tour de France winners Wiggins and Froome, but also Mark Cavendish as one of the big stars attracting young and old to also taste a new cycling experience. They now get the chance to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience to ride like a pro for one day. Continental style amateur cycling has finally made it to the UK. So if you want to go to Denmark in September, go and get qualified by finishing in the top 25% of your age category. Erwin Vervecken UCI World Cycling Tour Coordinator Final Version May 2015 Enervit Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book Cambridgeshire County Council Cambridgeshire County Council is proud of its involvement in the Tour de France and the continued efforts at building a legacy to promote cycling, tourism, health and well-being. The County can now say that legacy has been secured. We see the Tour of Cambridgeshire as a unique opportunity to have the area recognised nationally and internationally. It provides a platform for the local authorities, residents and businesses to celebrate and endorse all that is good within the County. The fact that an event of this magnitude is being driven wholly by local residents shows the ambition and determination of the people of Cambridgeshire and the County Council is honoured to facilitate it. Peterborough City Council Peterborough is proud to be a key part of the first ever Tour of Cambridgeshire. Our city has more than 150 miles of cycle routes connecting the whole of Peterborough and that means there is no where you can’t get to on a bike! The closed road Gran Fondo event has never before been seen in the UK and it’s a great honour for the city to host the start and finish. We hope that serious and leisure cyclists come together to take part in this wonderful finale to the weekend. For those spending some time in Peterborough you will find a heritage city, an environment city, an event city and a modern exciting cosmopolitan city. Our magnificent Norman cathedral is a sight to behold with its majestic architecture. Open spaces are plentiful. Peterborough boasts Green Flag award-winning parks, nature reserves and our country park, Ferry Meadows, where you can relax and take a walk around the lakes and woodland. Peterborough’s historic city centre is a vibrant regional shopping destination and Queensgate Shopping Centre sits in the heart of the city where it complements independent stores and a thriving market. For food and drink there is a diverse selection of restaurants serving cuisine for every palate and many, alongside some fantastic bars and pubs, open well into the evening. Enervit Enervit is one of the World’s leading sports nutrition companies and has been working alongside a Final Version May 2015 Enervit Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book number of the worlds sporting champions for nearly 50 years including Francesco Moser back in the 1980’s and more recently the Italian National Cycling Team. With this experience, coupled with the significant efforts in Research and Development, Enervit has been able to introduce unique products to the sporting world helping athletes better manage their nutritional strategies. Enervit is launching in the UK this summer and is delighted to be the title sponsor of the inaugural Tour of Cambridgeshire. From all at Enervit we wish you good luck at the Tour of Cambridgeshire and we look forward to seeing you on the day – please come and visit us at in the expo area! Importance of Registration Schedule Whilst our welcome is warm and heartfelt the warmth and feeling of our welcome will be all the more passionate if you are able to support us by working with us regarding the Registration Schedule. We have a limited capacity for handling large spikes in the numbers of riders registering. We have also gone to the effort of producing an EXPO area, a Food Court and indoor Chrono Start ramp and podium which all benefit from footfall and spectators. Please help us by registering as early as you can for the event to enjoy the spectacle we have produced. We MUST avoid a rush of arrivals at the last minute on the Sunday morning potentially causing issues and spoiling the experience we have created. ToC Event Solutions Centre VSM has made every effort to produce a technically excellent event with ToC. There is a chance that there is something that we missed or which hasn’t quite worked out according to plan. We need this feedback and we will work to resolve issues which may spoil your experience. To this end we have established the ToC Event Solutions Centre whereby we will endeavour to resolve issues as promptly as possible. The ToC Event Solutions Centre is located in the Atrium near the Registration area. Press and VIPs Press and VIPs intending to come to ToC at PAS are entitled to certain privileges by pre-registering. The privileges consist of Free Parking and access to the Press and VIP area within PAS. Please preregister your attendance with Patrick Trainor (patrick@trainormpr.com). Your name will be added to the Press and VIP List retained by the Traffic Management people at the entrances to PAS over the weekend. Once inside PAS please go to the Information Desk and collect a Gold wrist band to ensure your access to the Press and VIP area. Those not having pre-registered will have to pay the £10 per day parking fee for non-competitors. Section 2 – VSM Environmental Statement Vericool Sports Management applies a strong environmental policy to our events as does Cambridgeshire County Council. Peterborough itself is the UK Environment Capital in terms of its new housing and the attraction of environmental sector businesses. The local communities through Final Version May 2015 Enervit Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book which our event passes also have the right to expect that we leave their local environments as we find them. If we don’t respect this position we will not be welcomed back in future years. The particular aspects of the Environmental Policy we really need to assure relate to waste. Waste packaging is a necessary by-product of providing clean fresh drinking water within easy access to people riding in a timed event (waters bottles) and also providing easily accessible, safe energy products (powder sachets, gels and bars). The locations where waste (packaging in particular) could be problem for the Event are: Peterborough Arena and Showground Alconbury Weald Feed Station East View Farm Feed Station The Plough Public House Feed Station VSM is providing waste retention facilities in the form of skips and bins in and around the start / finish area on PAS and at the three feed stations. It is the responsibility of the riders to make sure that they place their waste into the facilities. Generally on the roads of the Chrono Route and the Gran Fondo Route riders MUST retain their packaging waste and place it in the facilities provided. We all have a moral duty to respect this statement, the countryside and the facilities laid on for the Event. Failure to follow and respect this Environmental Statement will damage the reputation of the Tour of Cambridgeshire and will make the event harder to promote in future years. Section 3 – Anti Doping Control A maximum of 100 anti-doping tests will be conducted over the weekend of which at least 50% will be conducted on the podium finishers. The remaining tests will be conducted on individuals in the Gran Fondo according to UCI protocols. Riders will be identified by representatives from the Anti-Doping Control unit immediately after the finish of the Gran Fondo and escorted to the Anti-Doping Control unit where they will be held until the necessary procedure has been completed. Any rider failing an Anti-Doping Control test, subject to the results being upheld, will receive a lifetime ban from the Tour of Cambridgeshire and any other event promoted by Vericool Sports Management. The name of the rider shall be published on the Tour of Cambridgeshire Website. If the rider holds a racing license then the relevant governing body shall be informed and the rider’s details will be passed to the UWCT and the UCI who will apply their own sanctions. This is particularly the case on Sunday morning for the Gran Fondo. We expect to receive between five and six thousand cars onto PAS during Sunday morning. We can process approximately 1,200 cars an hour. If participants arrive just in time we will have a big problem and since the road closures are fixed many participants may find that they are just too late! The Registration at the Tour of Cambridgeshire is of critical importance to the success of the whole Event; specifically its ability to process substantial numbers of riders in a short space of time on Sunday morning for the Gran Fondo. VSM has set out a schedule for registration below and requests that participants respect the schedule and register in their nominated time frame. In addition to alleviating delay on Sunday morning it also helps to create atmosphere in and around the Chrono start ramp, the podium and footfall through the EXPO, the success of which is integral to the long term success of ToC. Registration is located in the Atrium on PAS. There are signs directing participants to the entrance to the Atrium from the Car Park. Additionally the traffic management operatives will be able to point participants in the right direction. Please ask as you arrive at the car park entrance if unsure. Gran Fondo Registration The Registration is important for two key reasons: 1. To pick up your Race Pack 2. To register yourself for the insurance cover The Race Pack contains a jersey number only for the Chrono competitors and bike number (timing chip) and your jersey number for Gran Fondo competitors. Bring a printed copy of your Entry Confirmation Form with you and if appropriate your racing license. The required race licence for the front pens/gates in the Gran Gondo is a Full British Cycling race licence (not provisional), TLI or LVRC Final Version May 2015 Enervit Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book race licence. For non GB riders a UCI national governing body licence from your own country is needed. Also please ensure that you know your race number before arrival at the Registration Desk. These will be published on the ToC website at least one week before the Event. All jersey numbers have a coloured band which differentiates the Masters age classifications. The number sequencing differentiates the genders within a Masters age classification. Upon arrival in the Registration Hall please take the time to watch the ToC briefing. Your registration will confirm that you have watched and accepted the briefing. The registration area has six channels. One channel is reserved exclusively for riders holding a racing license who identified that they are interested in ‘racing’ in the Gran Fondo or in the Chrono or both. This channel is identified as ‘Race Only’ (All Chrono riders and Gran Fondo race numbers 001 to 1999). There are four channels dedicated to Gran Fondo non-race riders. These are identified by rider number (2000 to 2999, 3000 to 3999, 4000 to 4999 and 5000+) . There is one channel for riders who have entered but do not have a printed copy of their Entry Confirmation Form and for those riders who wish to ‘Enter at the Event’ (EatE). This channel is called EatE. EatE is accepted for the Gran Fondo only. Only cash payment will be accepted. The entry fee for EatE is £80. In the registration channels you will be asked to present a printed copy of your Entry Confirmation Form which has a QR code printed. The Entry Confirmation From will be used the organisers to register you into the Event. Upon completing Registration riders will be asked to look at an illustration of how to mount your bike number timing chip and jersey number which is available in the Registration area. Please note that riders who wish to enter the Race Starting Gate MUST enter on line in advance. Rider numbers for the Gran Fondo will be published on-line on the ToC website www.tourofcambridgeshire.com during the week prior to the Event. Please make a note of your number before you arrive to aid registration. If you forget your number then the ToC Event Solutions desk can help but there will probably be a queue. The on-line entries facility will close at 12.00hrs on Friday 5th June. Thereinafter only EatE entries are available. Upon having completed Registration follow the Exit signs into the EXPO in the Arena. Chrono Registration The Registration is important for two key reasons 1. To pick up your Race Pack 2. Be careful when overtaking to watch for oncoming riders on the opposite side of the road. Police Motor bikes will be riding the route from time to time to support road security. Do not impede them or try to follow them. Always stay to the left hand side of the road unless overtaking, do not ride in a group or take advantage by sitting close behind another rider.
