THE Issue No. 2, Term 2014/2015 N WELCOME BY THE CHAIRMAN FOBISIA EVENTS Dear Colleagues and Friends in and beyond our member schools, CONGRATULATIONS & THANK YOU! The simple fact that you are reading these words is indicative of one of the most important and powerful features of our Federation. Well done for this. It is great that none of us lose sight of the fact the Federation belongs to you, exists to best serve you and all parts of your school communities and is run by and driven by your amazing efforts. Please feel proud of yourself and of your Federation for it is your efforts that make us able to organise more events for pupils and colleagues than any other similar organisation. The time since our November conference at Bangkok Patana has hurtled by and our March Business meeting hosted by the BISV/BVIS in Ho Chi Minh City has also just passed. Enormous thanks go to Shaun Williams, Paul Holyome and their teams who did so much to make the latter gathering run so smoothly. There were many highlights of this Meeting and of the evening social time, recollections of the Vespa tour will probably take up residence in the annals of Federation history. During the course of our meeting days it was a real joy to be able to welcome The British School, New Delhi as the first new member school to join us from India. The school, its history and many outstanding features were eloquently introduced to us by their current Headmaster, Dr. Nick Argent. Sadly, Nick retires from post at the end of this academic year and will be “handing the representational baton” to his current deputy and successor, Mrs Vanita Uppal whom we look forward to welcoming to conference in November. Other business saw us all participate in lively debate about “Future Directions” and on the thorny subject of recruitment protocols. Stephen Holroyd (Secretary) has kindly volunteered to lead us through a period of self-review which we are calling the “Future Directions Initiative. ” As an Executive Committee we are collectively determined to do all we can to “future-proof” the on-going operations of our ever growing and developing organisation. Linked to the content of my first paragraph; I also want to thank Mick Farley (Heads liaison with CPD) for his continued work with this amazing group of colleagues drawn from our schools. Launching the initiative to organise the first Teachers’ Conference for the Federation has been a great undertaking and although, with the generous support of Neil Richard (BS Phuket), the original plan is now being remodelled, it will still require a vast amount of hard work. A big thank you to all who are involved in any shape or form. Please do all that you can to promote this event within your own schools. Soon after introducing a predominantly new Executive to you all I received two resignations and we are now in the process of co-opting two new members to the Ex Com. Thanks go to both Simon Mann and Stuart McLay for the work they have between them done for “Sports and Events.” Continued next page/= Welcome by the Chairman 1-2 Update From the FOB Executive Officer 3 FOB Heads’ Business Meeting, March 2015 4 Teachers’ Conference, BIS 5 Primary Performing Arts Carnival (PPAC)2015 6 Team elc at the FOB PPAC 7 COBIS Young Scientist Film Competition 2014 810 FOBISIA Tennis Competition 10 FOBISIA Model United Nations (MUN) 2014 11 FOBISIA Secondary Maths Competition 12 Inaugural FOB Sailing Championships— Harrow Int. Tania Page 3 FOBISIA HEADS’ BUSINESS MEETING, MARCH 2015 hosted by British International School Ho Chi Minh City and British The BIS Group of Schools in Vietnam was delighted to welcome 49 Head Teachers and Principals from around the region to Vietnam on the weekend of 13 – 14 March. The Annual FOBISIA Business Meeting was jointly hosted by the British International School and the British Vietnamese International School in Ho Chi Minh City. The Heads conducted a productive two days of business ensuring that FOBISIA continues to organise a wide variety professional development opportunities for teachers and its many inter-school events and competitions for students. The meeting was held in the conference facilities of the British Vietnamese International School and during an extended lunchtime the Heads were able to take a tour. This school is one of the newest schools in the Federation and has an unusual bilingual programme. The school uses the English National Curriculum, but teaches large parts of it in Vietnamese language using specially trained local teachers. On the eve of the business meeting a cocktail reception was held in the Rooftop Bar of the Caravelle Hotel. It was a lovely setting looking across the ever changing skyline of Ho Chi Minh City and providing an opportunity for Heads to catch up with old friends and to informally meet new Heads. This event was generously jointly sponsored by TIC Recruitment and Warwick-Mann financial advisors. Traditionally the Heads have a Friday night dinner together at this business meeting. This year it was a dinner with a difference. The Heads were treated to a three-course meal of traditional Vietnamese food in three different street restaurants in three different parts of the city. They were transported between each restaurant on chauffeur driven vintage Vespa motor scooters. They were able to see, feel, hear, taste and smell the real Ho Chi Minh City. This was a truly memorable occasion and the sight of 40+ Heads travelling in convoy around the bustling HCMC will stay with everyone for a long time to come. The participants enjoyed a huge variety of artistic activities and workshops during the three day event, ranging from Salsa to Storytelling and Shakespeare to Street dance. There were also plenty of opportunities to sample the local culture and cuisine, with traditional Thai games, and visits to Vimanmek Mansion (home of King Rama V), and a trip to the nearby night market. However, as members of either the choir or orchestra, the main focus for students was to prepare for Sunday afternoon’s closing concert, the traditional centerpiece of the Carnival. Unlike the competitive sporting and academic events, the Performing Arts Carnival is a unique opportunity for students from different FOBISIA schools to learn, sing and play side by side, forging lasting friendships and working together to create some truly special collaborations. In this year’s final concert, performers delivered arrangements of Beatles, Coldplay and Lloyd Webber classics with supreme quality and musical skill, each piece greeted by warm applause from family members, teachers and fellow music-lovers. After three very tiring but rewarding days in Bangkok, Sunday evening’s Carnival disco provided a well-deserved chance for students and staff alike to let off some steam. They took to the dance floor with the same characteristic energy and enthusiasm that they had shown throughout the Carnival, demonstrating that our guests had really taken Thai culture, and the guiding principal of “sanook” (meaning “fun”), into their hearts! Continued next page/= Page 6 TEAM elc AT THE FOBISIA PRIMARY PERFORMING ARTS CARNIVAL The team from elc International School, Malaysia, comprising 10 students and 2 teachers, participated in the recent FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts Carnival, hosted by Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok, Thailand. The Chatrium Riverside Hotel was a comfortable hotel by the Chao Phraya River and right next to the host school. At the hotel, we met Mr. Stewart McClenaghan, the Carnival Director, who guided us through our check-in. The students had a welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant, together with a cultural presentation of Thai dance and musical instruments. After the many days of intense rehearsals and various workshops, Sunday came - performance day! Everyone was very excited and we all did our best – in both choir and orchestra. Ms. Tang conducted the orchestra for “A Whiter Shade of Pale” and Mr. Enoch conducted the choir for “Any Dream Will Do”. With this, elc had the honour of being the only school which provided two conductors for the gala performance. After the gala concert, the students went for the dinner and disco. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. Altogether, it was a fantastic trip for the students and teachers. Page 7 COBIS YOUNG SCIENTIST FILM COMPETITION IN 2014 Award winning ABC International School (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) Science students write about their success with films they shot and entered into the COBIS Young Scientist Film Competition in 2014. These students are now in Year 11 and are studying IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We currently have a number of students in Years 9 and 10 (and possibly Year 11) working on their entries to next year’s COBIS Young Scientist Film Competition. Electrolysis of Brine: The Award Winning “Best Overall Key Stage 4-5 Film ” at the COBIS Young Scientist Film Competition 2014. When we were working on our science film, we were in Year 10. Our group consisted of 4 members: Jean Paul, Katy, Chihiro and Kevin. Now, we are currently in Year 11 and going through our IGCSE courses. Out of the three science subjects that we could've chosen, we decided that we wanted to focus our video on a topic of chemistry. As a group, we chose the topic of electrolysis because it was a subject that sparked our interest; it was one of our favorite topics during that term. Although not all of us take Chemistry, it was an opportunity for the two Chemistry students to their teammates about something that they have never known before. Jean-Paul demonstrated high quality editing skills and provided our group with amazing shooting equipment. Kevin was there to make that sure everything was completed on time and that we followed our scripts to the letter. All of our footage was shot at the ABC International School and with the help of our teachers we were able to use the facilities to carry out our investigation. But what is the electrolysis of brine all about? Well, the electrolysis of brine is a large scale, industrial process used to make chlorine (Cl), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen (H) from a solution called brine, which contains sodium chloride (NaCl) and water (H2O). To separate these elements from the brine solution, we use a process called electrolysis. This process involves a direct electric current (DC) being passed through the brine solution. This will cause chlorine, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen to individually separate from the solution. These 3 elements are inevitably indispensable in our daily lives; in fact, without them, we would find ourselves in big trouble. Chlorine, for example, is used to make plastic and is also used as a disinfectant in swimming pools. Continued next page/= Page 8 Sodium Hydroxide, again very useful, is used in processing food products, manufacturing paper and removing pollutants from water. Hydrogen, is used in rocket fuel and is also used in the hydrogenation of fats and oils (for example, making margarine). As you can see, the electrolysis of brine is very important and extremely relevant to our daily lives as some of the products we use every day will definitely contain one or more of the elements extracted using electrolysis. Overall, the making of the electrolysis video was a great opportunity to dig deeper into the world of science and learn more about the fundamentals of large scale, industrial processes that provide us, humans, with the necessary resources that we need in order to live – including the electrolysis of brine process. The science behind the process was our main motivation to make this video, as this process is very intriguing and fascinating. This project was very enjoyable to complete, and our group learned many new things. Earning the title of “Best Overall Key Stage 4-5 Film” was such a pleasant surprise and we believe that we deserved it. We will definitely do a new video this year on another topic and we hope to be as successful, if not, more successful than last year. Jean-Paul, Chihiro, Kevin and Katy OOBLECK: RUNNERS UP FOR THE BEST SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION ENTERED INTO THE COBIS YOUNG SCIENTIST FILM COMPETITION 2014. In March of 2014 we were encouraged by our teachers at the ABC International School, in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, to submit an entry to the COBIS Young Scientist Film Competition. Due to our love of science, we were very interested in participating. And thus we decided to take part in the competition and submit a short video explaining the science behind oobleck. The video we submitted was named “What is Oobleck?” In deciding which topic to base our video on, we searched both the internet and our science textbooks for a topic that interested us. It was then that we found a fascinating video on YouTube about a peculiar liquid called oobleck. With in-depth research we soon found out that oobleck does not possess the properties of a ‘typical’ fluid; it is a non-Newtonian fluid (if you want to know more, you can watch our video on YouTube). At the time we did not know much about non-Newtonian fluids, so we wanted to find out more about it. We then decided that the topic of our video would be oobleck and non-Newtonian fluids. We wanted to teach others about oobleck and show people how simple yet captivating different aspects of science can be. Our whole group was really excited to work together to make a video about oobleck. Our group consisted of 4 members: Anna Noij, Caroline Nguyen, Arpita Bansal and Catherine Duong. We agreed to meet up after school to plan, film and edit our video. The planning stage was the most difficult part of the process, but we enjoyed the challenge. We had to assign roles, sort out our equipment, write out our method and create a storyboard for our video. After completing our plan a couple days later, we were given permission from our teachers to carry out and film the oobleck experiment in one of the chemistry labs. Filming the experiment was very enjoyable because we got to observe first-hand the strange properties of oobleck. By the end of the session, we were left with tons of footage and a tub of oobleck (which was a lot of fun to play with). Editing the entire video was tedious due to the abundance of footage we had to condense into two and a half minutes. Throughout making the video, we were very thankful to have assistance and support from both our parents and teachers. Continued next page/= Page 9 We were very proud of our video when it was finally finished. It was hard work; we spent hours trying to convert our footage into the correct format, we didn’t always agree on ideas and we often got distracted… at one point, we were on the brink of giving up. But we’re all glad that we didn’t. In fact, we had a tremendous amount of fun. It felt so rewarding when we found out that we won runners up for the best scientific explanation. We couldn’t believe it! Overall, the making of our short science video was a great experience for us. We learnt a lot about oobleck and nonNewtonian fluids in general. We were also reminded of a few valuable life skills, such as the importance of being patient and never giving up. It’s safe to say that we thoroughly enjoyed participating in the COBIS Young Scientist Film Competition. So for all of you who are thinking about participating, go for it. It’s a great opportunity to get involved in science outside of the classroom and to improve your team working skills – all while having fun! You might face problems, like we did, but trust us when we say it’s worth it. Never give up. Anna, Caroline, Arpita and Catherine. FOBISIA Tennis Competition Harrow Bangkok’s Tennis Team travelled to Jakarta to take part in the third annual FOBISIA Tennis Competition with great success. The competition was played at the Senayan Tennis Centre, boasting 12 clay courts and eight hard courts. Many of the Harrow Bangkok players were new to competition at this level but held their own against much more experienced players. A special mention must go to Prom Deevilaiphan, who competed against players from all over Asia, but met his local rival from Shrewsbury in the final of the U11 Boys’ Singles. Rain added to the drama of the last day and the final had to be postponed until the following day. It proved to be a highly fought contest. Prom narrowly missed out on the gold medal, but his silver medal was much deserved and has provided inspiration to the team. Next year promises to be another excellent opportunity for the Harrow Bangkok players to demonstrate their passion for the sport. Page 10 FOBISIA MUN 2014 28th – 30th November 2014 Hosted by ABC International School, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam elc International School sent ten, Year 11 students for the FOBISIA Model United Nations (MUN), held in Vietnam. As this was the first time that we were taking part in a conference of this nature, the students naturally were excited at the prospect of becoming ‘delegates’ and playing their roles in defining and deciding on pertinent issues that affect each and every country globally. They were given the opportunity to showcase their skills in the art of persuasion and exert their influence on their fellow delegates to accept and support the resolutions put forward. There were many interesting challenges and tense moments, but that is what conferences are all about. We are very pleased that two of our students, Low Seo Hee and Ler Rui Lin secured the Outstanding Delegate award, but overall, this was an experience all will never forget. Page 11 SECONDARY MATHS COMPETITION Hosted by The ABC International School, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam From the 12th – 15th March 2015, The ABC International School, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, welcomed 164 students from 18 International School across 8 countries in Asia to the FOBISIA Secondary Maths Competition. This was an exciting three days of competitive, recreational mathematics, involving a variety of questions and puzzles. The event kicked off on the Thursday evening with some excellent ice-breaker activities, to help students from different schools get to know one another. On the Friday morning, three rounds took place in the hotel, followed by a maths trail at Binh Quoi 2 resort. This involved answering a series of questions, which were scattered across the resort, in the correct order. Although a hot and sticky afternoon, everybody was extremely enthusiastic and participated brilliantly. The Saturday morning saw another three rounds at the hotel followed by the grand finale at The ABC International School. Here, students worked their way around the maths carousel. 10 different mathematical activities were set up, and students had to complete as many as possible in the allocated time. The last round was the relay race. 20 questions were to be answered in as quick a time as possible. Each new question had to be collected from the team’s teacher, so plenty of running ensued. The event concluded with the awards ceremony, where medals and trophies were given out. Many congratulations to everybody who took part in the event. Special congratulations are extended to the winning team from Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok, who formed exceptionally well. I hope everyone enjoyed participating as much as we enjoyed hosting you! Mr. Jon Dancyger Head of Mathematics The ABC International School Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Page 12 per- INAUGURAL FOBISIA SAILING CHAMPIONSHIPS hosted by Harrow International School Bangkok Five schools, some 50 competitors and two boat types (Optimists and Qubas) battled it out at the Royal Varuna Sailing Club in Pattaya for the first FOBISIA Sailing Championships, hosted by Harrow Bangkok. The crews came in from far and wide, with four top teams from Thailand, and Kellet School, Hong Kong, who fielded a team which had recently won the Inter school’s Sailing Championships in Hong Kong. The weather conditions were challenging, with wind speeds of 8 knots in the morning, gusting to 12 in the afternoons. Many of our teams were used to the strong tides which Pattaya Bay is notorious for, and this enabled them to steal a march on their Hong Kong competitors. Early on in the event, the host school Harrow Bangkok beat Bangkok Pattana School (BPS) and Regents’ to move into a firm lead, but their competitors fought back to move into strong positions, with Bangkok Prep proving to be the outstanding team in terms of team tactics and individual sailing skills. The final races of the event were held on Saturday; BPS and Harrow Bangkok were fighting it out for 3rd Place with BPS eventually triumphing in a nail-biting finish. Kellet Hong Kong and Bangkok Prep provided a tense final for the event, with strong sailing skills eventually winning the day for the Bangkok Prep team. It was certainly an experience that many of us will never forget, a comment from the Harrow Bangkok Team Captain, Nano, sums up the event perfectly, when he said, “Skippering my team to some closely-fought races has been the height of my sailing career, and I shall definitely be back to cheer our new team on in 2016”. Page 13 YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS AT HARROW BANGKOK TAKE TOP AWARD IN JA ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESS COMPETITION Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide crowned Harrow Bangkok's student-led business, Boucase, as the Asia Pacific JA Company of the Year 2015 in its 5th annual regional competition. Boucase pitched their product, a multifunctional waterproof standing pencil case made from environmentally friendly materials, to a panel of judges at the event in competition with teams from throughout the Asia Pacific region. Boucase received high praise from the Judges for their effective and well-constructed presentation. Every team member demonstrated great understanding of the operation of the company, their product and the future of the business. Boucase was also the recipient of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Choice Award, voted as the most popular team amongst their peers in the competition. In addition to a business presentation and panel interview, Boucase were also judged on their interaction with customers and product promotion at a trade fair, and a written company report. A record-breaking 18 student companies from 10 countries and regions (China, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Turkmenistan) participated in the five-day event which was held in Bangkok from 8-12th February. This is the second consecutive year in which a Harrow Bangkok team has won the Asia Pacific title, following a 2nd place finish in 2013, an amazing record which highlights the exceptional leadership and business skills of our students and their ability to function effectively in teams. Congratulations to the entire Boucase team on their success! Page 14 SHREWSBURY HOSTS ITS FIRST FOBISIA SWIM CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015 On 23rd to 25th January Shrewsbury International School was proud to host the first ever FOBISIA age group swimming championships. FOBISIA’s swim competitions have traditionally formed part of a multidisciplinary Games format, but this dedicated event provided a new platform for athletes who excel at swimming to compete against the best in the field. The competition featured 527 athletes from 19 of South East Asia’s top sporting schools. Over 3 days of breathless competition, athletes took part in a staggering 595 events. In another first for FOBISIA, girls had the opportunity to compete at the extended 800m distance, whilst some of the boys took part in a gruelling 1500m race. Athletes produced some fantastic performances during the event, setting 60 new records in total, with one Namibian athlete setting 4 National records for their country. Shrewsbury's own swimmers put in a strong all-round performance to finish 4th overall behind Champions Bangkok Patana School, Alice Smith School Kuala Lumpur, and British International School, Phuket. One of Shrewsbury’s very own swimming stars, Win (Year 8), certainly lived up to his name, finishing first in 11 individual races, and finishing the competition as 2nd highest overall points scorer in the competition. Meanwhile, the other team prizes went to Alice Smith School, Kuala Lumpur (Travelling Team Winners) and BIS Phuket (High Point Average winners). Page 15 GOLFERS DEFEND FOBISIA TITLE On Wednesday 11th March, Shrewsbury International School’s top golfers travelled to the Siam Country Club, Pattaya to compete in the 2015 FOBISIA Golf Championships. The girls went into the competition as defending champions, and with the boys also showing some good form in Wednesday’s practice round, there were high hopes of yet more team success. All of our players contributed some excellent performances over the two days of competition to take 3rd place overall (mixed Boys and Girls), whilst the Girls secured the FOBISIA team title for the second year running. The competition was underpinned by some exceptional individual performances, with players taking full advantage of more favourable second day conditions to card some impressive scores. Tanya followed up her first round score of 74 with a brilliant 1 under par 71 to be crowned U15 Girls champion. Vicky took second place in the U13 division with an even par 72. Meanwhile, Gus was unlucky not to medal in an extremely competitive Boys competition, despite carding a 2 under par 70 on the second day. As with every FOBISIA tournament, one of the highlights was the chance to get to know and catch up with golfers from across the region, from as far and wide as Kathmandu in Nepal to old friends from Brunei. Congratulations to all of the Athletes for their fantastic performances! Page 16 REGENTS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PATTAYA HOSTS THE U13 GROUP B1 GAMES Regents International School Pattaya hosted the U13 B1 Group of schools from the 26th-30th March. All seven schools were very keen to get started and loved their participation pack that included gifts from our long established Round Square community partners. The athletes were treated to a delicious meal at the Opening Ceremony at the Cholchan Resort and given some useful mental preparation techniques to use during their competition from our guest speaker - Nikon Gormley. He also set them the challenge of achieving the Thai National Flag from the colours of medal ribbons they win throughout the three days of competition. Friday kicked off with Swimming and there were some outstanding times achieved from our young swimmers despite the heat. elc came out worthy winners with St Andrews Bangkok and Dulwich Suzhou in 2nd/3rd respectively. Athletics followed in the afternoon and again the athletes gave it their all on the track and field to achieve new p.b’s in a number of events. Elc were overall winners and Regents were 2nd and St Andrews Bangkok in 3rd. Over the weekend, the Football and Basketball competitions were played with wonderful spirit and all competitors performed beyond expectation. The level of respect and sportsmanship on display we impressive and the medals could have gone to numerous schools as the competition was that tight. However, medal winners and champions are needed: Elc won the girls football; Regents the boys football; St Andrews the girls basketball and Regents the boys basketball. In terms of the competition all the athletes gave of their best and particular congratulations should go to those who competed so well in the longer distance events in very trying conditions. The JIS staff, both teaching and non-teaching, set very high standards in terms of officiating and ensured that all the participants were able to perform to the best of their ability. Not only did the athletes have to cope with each other but also the searing heat that saw temperatures climb well into the thirties. The athletics concluded with the excitement of the 4x100m relays and JIS performed with excellence coming out on top in three of the four events. Following a short break it was relocation to the National Swimming pool next door. Thankfully some shade to cool everyone down, however in the water the competition was as hot as ever. The races came thick and fast and with the National Brunei officials on hand all the swimmers had to ensure high quality techniques. With all the athletes pushing themselves it came as no surprise that the medical team were called upon to ensure that injuries and heat exhaustion were overcome and kept to a minimum. As day one came to a close there were a lot of tired bodies ready to refuel back at JIS. Days two and three involved the boys and girls taking part in both Basketball and Football. Both competitions ran concurrently and staff switched eagerly between both to see how the boys and girls were getting along. As the competitions were being organised on a league basis each result mattered and as each day wore on the atmosphere grew and the tension became almost unbearable. This was particularly true in the Basketball where every point was cheered by the army of followers that came with each school. As can be seen from the results below each school had their strengths and went home with medals and trophies as to how they performed. For the students however it was the Gala Dinner that provided the most excitement, with an opportunity to dress up, make new friends and generally celebrate what was a marvellous event. As the dust settles, teams return home and we all breathe a sigh of relief we turn our attention to the next major event that will take place at JIS, it will have to be exceptional to match the U13 FOBISIA 2015. Page 19 2015 FOBISIA U13 Group A2 Games in Taipei The 2015 FOBISIA U13 Group A2 Games were hosted by the Taipei European School (TES) in Taipei from March 10 th 14th. Over 220 students and teachers came together from the participating schools of: British International School Shanghai Pudong, British International School Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City), British International School Jakarta, Dulwich College Beijing, Kellett International School Hong Kong and hosts TES. On a cold and wet Taipei day, the games started off on the Wednesday morning with the swimming events. There were 200m, 100m and 50m races followed by medley and freestyle relay races. With a big crowd of students cheering on in the swimming arena, the great atmosphere of the Games was underway. In spite of the rain, after lunch the hard fought but good spirited competition between the students continued with the track events and field events. Slightly bedraggled but still buoyant the winners strode proudly to the podiums to collect their well deserved medals. The following two days continued with the fiercely contested competitions of basketball and football for the boys and the girls. The conduct and team spirit of the young students was very impressive and everyone played their part in making the event a successful one. Each school hosted an array of medals and cups for their victorious sides and this included the hosts TES with the U13 FOBISIA Champions for boys’ basketball. Well done to all the participants, as well as the winners, of the various swimming, athletics, basketball and football events. On the last night everyone attended a Gala Dinner at the Sunworld Dynasty Hotel and all the competitors had the chance to celebrate and cement the newly-made friendships. Lastly, a big thank you goes out to all of the staff that trained and brought each team of students to visit Taipei. Also thanks to the TES staff, parents and all that helped to organize this highly enjoyable and successful event.
