Ground-breaking strapping technology –
made by MOSCA
SONIXS is the name of this ground-breaking
strapping generation. The heart is the new
sealing head with the specially designed
ultrasonic-weld technology.
Ultrasonic sealing –
Step the way into
the future
Joining the two open ends of the strap loop presents a
potential problem in the modern strapping technology.
A tear-proofed seal, reduced sealing time as well as
environmental compatibility are the main requirements
that are in demand.
MOSCA has now developed a new system that utilises
ultrasonic technology to its full capability. A special
sonotrode produces very strong consistent sealing.
This new ultrasonic sealing system that is suitable for
PET and PP straps offers a seal that is much stronger
and far more resistant to tearing.
Reducing the sealing time and the omission of the
heating time leads to a strapping speed that is increased by 50 % - no fumes or smells are produced
and there is no residue built up due to melting strap
to dispose of.
SONIXS –
Economic strapping
with the latest-instrapping technology
STRAPPING SYSTEMS
Mechanical vibrations are transmitted under
pressure on the plastic parts to be fused, or in the
case of strapping, the ends of the strap to be joined
together. A special sonotrode produces very strong
consistent sealing. The tensile strength at the sealing
position represents up to 85 % of the tensile strength
of the strap used.
Because of this consistent high seal strength, in many
applications it is possible to use thinner and/or narrower more economical cost-saving straps. Considerable
savings can be made, for instance changing from
12-mm to 9-mm strap in a high usage application
could mean that a machine might pay for itself within
a short time of purchase.
The operating temperature of the converter unit is
only approx. 70 °C (instead of 270 °C). This offers the
possibility of immediate operation without heating
time. There are no smells and no build up of excess
residues. At the same time a high quality consistent
seal strength is produced.
The electronics for the ultrasonic sealing head have
been especially developed by MOSCA. This offers two
advantages: the simplicity and economics of the solution
remain in our control and at the same time are perfectly adjusted to the application.

There are no smells or fumes (that appear
in thermal compound of PET-straps and that require
extracting) produced as the plastic strap is only heated
inside. Low running noises by linear supported parts
improve the environment.
The MOSCA sonotrode
produces very strong consistent
sealing. The tensile strength at
the sealing position represents
85 % of the tensile strength of
the strap used. In practise this
means that the transported
goods can withstand greater
stress because of the increased
seal strength. In many applications it is possible to use thinner
and/or narrower straps without
loss of performance.
No heating time is required resulting in a significant
reduction in sealing time.
Contrary to the heat-welding system, the ultrasonic
sealing technology needs no heating time.
The complete sealing head, squaring and strapping unit operates with brushless DC motors. The
electronic commutating of the drives together with
the proven bearing technology guarantee lowest
noise levels during strapping machine operation.
The electronics for the ultrasonic
sealing head have also been developed by MOSCA.
The process controlled systems works with latest
technology. If required the sealer head calibrates itself.
Temperature variations are compensated for automatically. Automatic monitoring of the operation is
integrated into the system; light emitting diodes signal
the status of the converter. The wear-free direct drives
can be precisely controlled. The SONIXS-sealing head
can be easily and quickly removed without tools and
its performance is tested on a test rig. Another big
advantage is seen when servicing the sealing head.
The sealing head can be changed within 30 seconds.
Considerable savings can be made, for instance
changing the strap in a high usage application could
mean that a machine might pay for itself within one
year of purchase.
