Stay away from the virgin paper! Use your purchasing power to protect endangered ecosystems! Please switch from tree-killing virgin paper to recycled paper made from post-consumer waste (PCW). Princeton used 1000 tons (400,000 reams) of office paper last year. Only 7% contained post-consumer content! Switching those 1000 tons entirely to 100% PCW paper would mean: - 36% less greenhouse gases (which cause global warming); - 2.2 million lbs less pollution particulates (which are linked to asthma and other health problems1). Recycled paper saves forests. Deforestation is a leading cause of extinction. There is no difference in quality between the virgin and PCW paper products in Princeton’s catalog. The federal government has set 30% PCW as a minimum standard. The Princeton Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Dept. switched to 100% PCW paper with no problems. 30% PCW paper is 6% lower in price than the virgin paper used by most departments. 100% PCW Aspen 100 costs only $3.33/carton more. The University is negotiating with Boise to further reduce the price. You can help by switching to Aspen 100. Greater demand = lower cost! How can you order recycled paper? When placing an order via the Boise web site, enter part number P1054922 for Aspen 100, part number 5067 for Aspen 30% PCW. Additional post-consumer products are available on the Boise web site. Select the "Recycled" catalog to view all PCW items under contract. To learn more, please come to the University Environmental Oversight Committee "Paper Party," March 18, 2003 in Frist Campus Center, 12:00-1:30. Box lunches provided.
