Many of these papers incorporate non-wood (or tree-free) fibers ranging from on-purpose fiber
Tree-Free Fibers: Includes many crops, such as bamboo,
kenaf and industrial hemp, which are grown specifically for
their fiber content. These tend to grow faster than trees and
are therefore more efficient per acre. Tree-free fibers are
also derived from agricultural byproducts, such as rice
straw, sugar cane bagasse, and corn stalks.

TCF – Totally Chlorine Free: Virgin fiber that is
unbleached or bleached without chlorine or chlorine

ECF – Elemental Chlorine Free: Fiber bleached with
chlorine dioxide or other chlorine compounds. This is a
cleaner process than chlorine gas bleaching, but it still
generates environmentally hazardous toxins.
