Additional material or labor is not included should the completed system exceed specified ohm readings i) Additional grounding not included if applicable, such as: interior grounding, column grounding, floor grounding, ground bus bars, light pole grounding, equipment/generator grounding, fence grounding, canopy grounding, etc. j) Interior grounding and bonding of metallic parts, other than what is required by code, may be specified but are not included in our quote. k) Landscape repair or replacement not included if applicable. l) Concrete removal, repair, and replacement if applicable not included. m) Safety tie off locations if required must be provided by others. n) Information on UL Certification versus LPI Certification: o Lightning Protection Institute (LPI ) Certification Options: LPI Certificate is recommended for this structure in place of certification by UL. LPI as of Spring 2011 is now a third party inspection and certification program. LPI can inspect to all three code standards UL96A, LPI 75, and NFPA 780 or a combination of any (UL can only inspect to UL96A). www.lightning.org Two options are available: Limited Inspection – surge protection can be exempt from inspection. Master Inspection - surge protection compliant with UL 1449 3rd edition and LPI 175 is required. Surge protection as listed must be installed on each main electric panel, each main tv coax line, and each main phone line. See surge requirements. o Underwriter Laboratory (UL ) Certification Option: Entire system and surge devices must be compliant with current UL code standards, UL96A and UL 1449 3rd edition . Surge protective devices must bear the holographic UL logo sticker for UL Certification. This sticker must be visible at the time of inspection. No other testing agency (such as ETL) will be accepted by UL. Photographic proof of compliant surge must be emailed to our office prior to scheduling the UL inspection o Surge Protection Requirements: Surge devices as listed below are now required to receive a LPI Master Inspection or UL Master Certification Effective February 2010 UL will no longer issue Master Label Certification for structures that do not have surge protection devices on the main electrical panel that meet UL1449 third edition. If the structure has multiple main electric disconnect panels or tv/phone lines each will require surge protection per this code standard. The cost for Maxwell Lightning Protection to supply the necessary surge protection to meet these requirements is listed below. Surge is to be installed by others; labor is not included in our quote. o Main Electric Panel(s) $250.00 per panel (up to 800 amps) o TV Coax Line(s) $ 75.00 per line o Phone Line(s) $ 75.00 per line • Please note that if surge devices are found non compliant at the time of inspection a certification will not be issued (fail inspection). Any expenses/labor should this occur due to surge supplied/installed by others will be additional If applicable, rebar or steel is required to be bonded at each down lead location top and bottom. Maxwell will furnish mechanical clamps and cable for a ground tail to be installed by your firm. Maxwell will terminate these pigtails to our thru roof assemblies and ground rod locations. Exclusion: (General Contractor or Roofing Contractor must be notified) The Lightning Protection System will be adhered directly to the roof surface, by our firm, with the proper adhesive only. Thru-roof assemblies must be sealed and flashed in by the roofing contractor. Roofing Contractor must supply and install all wear pads, stripping, battens, heat welded strips or pavers, whichever may or may not occur due to their choice of roofing manufacturer. No Materials or labor for these items have been included in our scope Our quotes include all material, labor, and tax. The system will be installed in accordance with UL 96A, NFPA 780, and LPI 175 Lightning Protection Codes We carry Workers compensation insurance, $1 mil vehicle insurance, and $7 mil blanket coverage. Waivers of subrogation and additional insured descriptions can be supplied. Any additional endorsements or coverage that may be required that will cost an additional premium will be subject to an additional charge. Payment and performance bonds are not included in this quote but can be provided at an additional charge. Thank you for this opportunity to quote this project. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any further questions concerning this or any future projects. Attn. Debbie BID PROPOSAL – LAKE COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS AND OPERATIONS CENTER After careful examination of the drawings, specifications (16670) and any notes/addenda relating to the lightning protection phase of the above mentioned project, we submit the following price: Bid Price - Sixteen Thousand Five Hundred Fifty-five Dollars and Zero Cents $ 16,555.00 Main Building - $10,076.00 Central Energy Plant - $6,479.00 This lightning protection system will utilize an aluminum roof system, copper downleads and 1 - 5/8x30' ground rod at each ground location. This proposal includes the Communication and Operations Building and the CEP. The lightning protection for the CEP is limited to the roof work only as noted on drawing E2.02 - no work on this building will be done below the roof line. The UL Master Label or LPI Certification for the CEP will be dependent on the condition of the existing lightning protection system. **Please be aware that requirements for the UL Master Label Certification have changed and that your TVSS/Surge/Arrestors for the structure/structures must conform to UL's requirements for use with lightning protection systems. If they do not, a UL Letter of Non-Compliance will be issued. The Lightning Protection Institute now has their own inspection program for their LPI Certification of the lightning protection system and the UL Inspection that was originally required for LPI Certification is no longer needed. The LPI now states that you cannot have both inspections, it is one or the other, however the LPI-IP inspection can excluded the need to inspect the arrestors/surge/tvss.** This Bid will include: 1. All Materials, transportation, equipment, tools, labor and associated costs. 1 2. The completed system shall meet or exceed the requirements of the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI-175), the National Fire Protection Association’s Code (NFPA-780) and the “installation requirements for lightning protection systems, UL96A” of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. 3. The UL Master Label or LPI Certification will be applied for upon completion of our installation. All Portions of the system, whether copper or aluminum, shall be galvanically compatible to the building material to which they are to be attached. Connections between copper and aluminum portions of the system shall be made with appropriate bimetallic coupling devices. Ground metal bodies within the bonding distance determined by NFPA 780, shall be bonded to the system in accordance with code requirements. Underground metallic piping entering the building shall be bonded to the nearest down conductor or ground electrode. Air terminals have been located on roof top equipment as required. If the metal thickness of an object is 3/16” or greater, air terminals may be eliminated if the object is properly connected to the system. All elevations are approximate and are taken from average grade. Lightning protection flat bases and roof fasteners (every 3’ on center) will be adhered directly to the roof membrane as specified. All necessary drawings will be provided by Lightning Protection by Quinn, Inc. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Will not include: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. If roofing contractor requires pitch pans, roof pads, flashing, slip sheets, pavers, heat welded strips or boots, the roofing contractor is to provide all material and labor for these items/method. Lightning Protection by Quinn, Inc. will provide labor and materials only for the lightning protection material fastened to the roof membrane. Pipes or Chaseways for downlead cables to be installed by others. Connection to mechanical equipment inside buildings. Lightning Protection Ground Loop. Test Wells. Pipe or Chaseways for down lead cables to be installed by others. Arrestors/Surge/TVSS. Any change orders. Michael T. Quinn 2
