Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 28, 2015
Because of sin, sickness and death have entered the world, but are overcome through the
resurrection of Jesus. He hears the cry of those in need, healing the sick and raising the dead to
life. He made himself poor that we might become rich.

Dear Parishioners of St. Mary,
We are continuing our efforts to allow our parishioners to get to know our staff. This week we
are featuring Julie Rutledge-Sanchez.
Julie Rutledge-Sanchez is the Director of Religious Education. She joined our staff in 2008. She
is from Eugene where she graduated from South Eugene High and the University of Oregon.
She studied Sociology, Elementary Education, as well as Linguistics and Foreign Languages
(French, Spanish, and Farsi). Her family has been in this parish for nearly 100 years! Julie is the mother of two sons and two
daughters. She has experience in working with Special Education, English as Second Language, the Home School
community, and 4j’s French Immersion and SEHS/IHS communities. Her varied interests include dancing around the house
with daughter Ana, watching TV show marathons with daughter Emmy, anything history, loves genealogy, cinema, art,
stargazing, being Catholic and cooking.
As Director of Religious Education, Julie oversees all catechesis of our young people in English and Spanish programs
including Sacramental Preparation for First Communion, First Reconciliation, Older Children’s Baptism and Confirmation. Her
many duties also include Liturgical preparation for special Masses, Retreats for First Communion, Confirmation, and
Quinceañera. She works very closely with May Crowning, Homeless Hospitality, Coffee/Donut Hospitality, Sunday Children’s
Children’s Liturgy, and Sunday Nursery. She also administers and trains volunteers for our parish’s Called to Protect/Safe
Environment policy required by the Archdiocese. In addition to her work at the parish, she works very closely with the second
grade teachers at O’Hara to prepare the children for First Communion. She is a member of the Catholic Daughters of the
Americas and helps lead the Junior Catholic Daughter’s girls group. Recently she had a grant funded that enabled our parish
to purchase up-to-date Adaptive Sacramental Preparation materials so we can better serve our families with children who
have special needs. Julie is a valuable member of our staff who helps our families so they can raise up young disciples that
will go forth to love and serve the Lord.
In Christ,
Fr. Ronald Nelson, pastor

1st Way
st
1 Way needs volunteers who are willing to reach out and
support the girls and women who come through our doors.
After being trained, volunteers are assigned a shift at the 1st
Way office—usually 3 hours a week—that suits their
schedule and to which they can commit for a period of time.
Volunteers handle a variety of phone calls, especially from
girls and women who are distressed about being pregnant.
They also assist women who come in for free pregnancy
tests, or who wish to talk about a variety of pregnancyrelated concerns. Some volunteers help in other ways such
as sorting and washing maternity and baby clothes, knitting
baby booties, helping with fundraisers, or preparing
newsletters to mail. There is a great and continuous need
for the work we do. You might be the right person to help
save a child’s life. If you believe that you are called to help
st
in some way, please call 1 Way at 541-687-8651.

Church Attire
Now that warmer weather is on its way, it is time to remind
everyone to be aware of modest and appropriate dress when
attending Mass, serving in the sanctuary, or attending a
parish function. Parents, let’s set a good example of selfrespect for our youth by dressing appropriately and asking
them to do so as well. Dressing for Mass is simply a matter of
showing proper respect, not only for God, but for others
around you.
One should always wear clothes that are
modest.
Lord, I pray that I never take my freedom for granted. May I
always remember that my freedom was purchased at a very
high price. My freedom cost others their very lives. Lord, bless
those who have served and continue to give their lives for our
freedom. Meet their needs and watch over their families.
Amen.

Como Dios Distribuye sus Dones
(Parte 26)
