Intelligent Energy Management
Lutron Lighting Control System
Lighting Scenes and Housekeeping Workflow Offer Guest Comfort, Energy Savings and Improved Hotel Staff Efficiency
EcoSource/EcoInsight Integration with Lutron System: two-way communication between the
EcoSource/EcoInsight and the Lutron system. Lutron sends DND and MUR (“Do Not Disturb”
and “Make Up Room”) statuses to the thermostat, and the thermostat sends occupancy, room
sold status and guest or staff entry information to Lutron. Lutron sends lighting commands to
two Lutron dimmer switches.
SeeTouch Lutron Switch
Lutron Repeater
The Lutron interface uses a two way direct serial connection between EcoSource/EcoInsight
and the Lutron Repeater. “Do Not Disturb” and “Make Up Room” cards designed to hang on
the outside of hotel room doors have been replaced with an electronic version. The SeeTouch
Lutron Switch is situated in the guest’s room. The guest can press the “Do Not Disturb” or “Make
Up Room” button on the switch. This data is sent electronically to the EcoSource/EcoInsight,
which in turn sends it to the Axxess door signage in the hallway. The Axxess door signage reacts
by either lighting the MUR light, or lighting the DND light and disabling the doorbell. Additionally,
the guest’s DND/MUR directive is sent out over the Telkonet ZigBee network to the Axxess
Server where it can be monitored by the property staff.
Pre-defined room lighting scenes are created for specific events: “First Entry”, “Re-Entry”, “Staff
Entry” and “Master”. Based on the event, a specific lighting scene is created in the room. (For
example, upon a guest’s first entry into the room, the dimmers are 100% lit). These scenes can
be initiated by the EcoSource through the Lutron Protocol.
Key Features:
•
All lights turn on automatically when
guest first enters room
•
Lights dim on re-entry
•
No lighting scene upon
housekeeping entry
•
Request housekeeping with the
press of a button
•
Guest can ensure privacy and
prevent disturbance from
housekeeping by pressing the DND
button.
Benefits:
•
In addition to the thermostat
energy savings, additional savings are
achieved by turning off lights when
the room is unoccupied.
•
Improved guest experience with
lighting scenes and automation.
Required Devices:
•
Lutron Main Repeater
•
Lutron Lighting Controller
•
EcoSource/EcoInsight
Further, the Property Management System sends a record of check-in or check-out to the
EcoSource/EcoInsight. Our thermostat then sends a message to the Lutron Repeater to perform
the appropriate room scene. (For example, in an “unsold” room, the dimmers are completely off.)
Also, integration to the door lock can prevent the lighting scenes being called if there is staff entry
instead of the first guest entry. The benefit of this method of interface over using dry contacts
is that updates can be made over the network to enable and disable lighting scenes differently.
