Lutron Lighting Control System Technical Specifications

Integration of EcoSource/EcoInsight with the Lutron Lighting Control System

This integration provides 2-way communication of commands and status between the EcoSource/EcoInsight and the Lutron Lighting

Controller.

EcoSource/EcoInsight Integration with Lutron System: A two-way communication between the thermostat and the Lutron system. Lutron sends DND and MUR (“Do Not Disturb” and “Make Up Room”) statuses to the thermostat and the thermostat sends occupancy, room sold status and guest vs. staff entry information to Lutron.

The Lutron interface uses a two way direct serial connection between EcoSource/EcoInsight and the Lutron Repeater. The guest can press the SeeTouch Lutron Switch options: “Do Not Disturb” or “Make Up Room”. This data is sent electronically to the EcoSource/

EcoInsight, which in turn sends it over ZigBee to the Axxess door signage in the hallway. The Axxess door signage reacts by either lighting the MUR light, or lighting the DND light and disabling the doorbell. Additionally, the guest’s DND/MUR directive is sent out over the

Telkonet ZigBee network to the Axxess Server where it can be monitored by the property staff or integrated in to the PMS or HotSOS.

Pre-defined room lighting scenes are created for specific events: “First Entry”, “Re-Entry”, “Staff Entry” and “Master”. Based on the event, a specific lighting scene is created in the room. These scenes can be initiated by the EcoSource through the Lutron Protocol.

Further, the Property Management System sends a record of check-in or check-out to the EcoSource/EcoInsight over the ZigBee network. Our thermostat then sends a message to the Lutron Repeater to perform the appropriate room scene. (For example, in an

“unsold” room, the dimmers are completely off.)

Also, integration to the door lock can prevent the lighting scenes being called if there is staff entry instead of the first guest entry. The benefit of this method of interface over using dry contacts is that updates can be made over the network to enable and disable lighting scenes differently.

Serial Connection to Lutron Main Repeater

A custom cable, with a male DB9 on one end and a mini USB on the other end, connects the EcoSource/EcoInsight to the Lutron Main

Repeater.

9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity.

Serial Commands

All serial commands are terminated with carriage return and line feed characters. Commands are sent by the Lutron controller to tell the thermostat of switch activations, and commands are sent from the thermostat to update the Lutron controller on guest entry and occupancy changes.

Commands from Lutron Main Repeater

There are two Lutron switches labeled DND (Do Not Disturb) and MUR (Make up room). When a switch is pressed, a command is sent to the thermostat, which in turn sends the command to the Axxess door sign. The MUR button will turn on a green LED on the door sign to indicate service is required. Pressing the DND button disables to door bell. Both the DND and MUR buttons have a local

LED indicating whether they are on or off and both buttons operate on a toggle basis, where pressing the button a second time reverts to the previous state.

Commands from Thermostat

The thermostat sends occupancy and sold/unsold status commands to the Lutron controller, which uses this information to control two light fixtures.
