MSc Water Management Programme 2016 – 20171) information: Wim Luxemburg w.m.j.luxemburg@tudelft.nl 015 2785717, room 4.90 Hydrology Water Resources Management Urban Water Engineering Additional information on: http://watermanagement.tudelft.nl Programme outline The MSc track Water Management is part of the MSc programme in Civil Engineering. Within the Water Management track there are various specialisations, but there is also a package of common courses. The total number of credits for these common courses is 16 EC. Moreover, so-called specialisation courses have to be selected. The total number of credits for these courses is 40 EC. They can be selected from the specialisation courses offered by the department, as well as from a number other courses, depending on the chair and thesis subject. The following figure and table give the general outline of the 2016 - 2017 programme of the MSc track Water Management. On Campus courses are given during 4 periods of 10 weeks each, starting September 2016 and ending July 2017. Most courses end with a written exam, which are scheduled in the last week of the same 10-week period. Full-time students take 3 to 5 courses per period, totalling 15 EC. Each Online course is given parallel to the Campus course, within the same period, ending with exams together with on Campus students. All lectures of the Campus course are recorded as web-lecture (Collegerama) and will be available in Blackboard within 48 hours, together with all reading material, assignments, tests, etc. Online MSc students have to be in Delft in week 9 and 10 of the period for educational activities which are not (yet) available online, for meeting other students and staff, and for exams. For some courses arrangements have to be made directly with the teacher. All students are free to choose whether to follow a course on Campus or Online. However, for the academic year 2016-2017 some elective specialisation courses are not yet offered Online. The choice for on Campus or Online has to be made at the latest four weeks before the start of the course. Example time schedule for a 3 EC course in on Campus (left) and Online (right) format All Water Management courses - on Campus and Online - are also offered as ‘stand-alone’ courses, with a valid certificate if the course is taken within the framework of ‘Contract education’ of Delft University of Technology. Common programme The common programme includes a compulsory course for all MSc Civil Engineering students (wm0312CIE or CIE4510) and the common courses for all Water Management students. The common courses provide a broad basis across the work fields of hydrology, water resources management, and sanitary engineering. The common courses are listed in the table below. All common courses are given in the first period of the academic year. Consequently, students do not have to decide on their specialisation right at the start of their MSc, but can do this later. All common courses are available in on Campus and Online format. The specialisation profiles are related to the preference of the student for a certain specialisation and the thesis subject the student prefers. The department will give adequate guidance in this process during an intake discussion. Students can select courses listed in the table below, as well as MSc courses offered by Environmental Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Geosciences and TNW. In each case the selection will have to be approved by the chair of your graduation committee.
