Section F Precision Measures Perfection THERMOMETER THERMOMETERS The following pages contain data on the Rhomberg range of Bimetal thermometers, "V" Line Liquid / Mercury in Glass thermometers, the Nitrogen Gas range of thermometers and the Digital Indicators employing either Thermocouples or Resistance thermometer inputs. V-Line Glass Thermometers The operation of the glass thermometer is similar to that of other thermometers using the liquid or gas expansion principle. The sealed glass capillary contains a small bulb filled with a liquid or mercury. This fluid will expand with the application of temperature and will rise into the capillary. A scale is fixed in a corresponding position next to the capillary. The latter concept is used in the "V" line case design. Bimetal Thermometers Unlike most dial indicating instruments, the Bi-Metal Thermometer has no pinion and segment movement and the pointer is directly driven by the coiled bimetallic strip. This simple, yet rugged construction ensures long, trouble free service with enduring accuracy. Gas Actuated Thermometers The "natural" successor to the mercury activated thermometer. The Nitrogen gas charged system has become entrenched as the most frequently demanded alternative! The system comprises a measuring coil with geared movement and probe. Nitrogen gas is inert, non toxic, colourless and odourless. Application of heat to the probe will result in an expansion of the gas, which will result in an expansion of the measuring coil. It is this reaction of the coil that is translated into a reading via the pointer onto a calibrated dial. DigiTemp Digital Pressure Gauges & Transmitters These battery powered digital temperature indicators are available with either a type K thermocouple or Pt1000 resistance thermometer input. A clear 4 digit liquid crystal display indicates the measured temperature value across a range of -100 to 800C. Power supply is either from two 1.5V AA cells or, in transmitter mode, a two wire 24VDC supply. Intrinsically safe versions to Eex ia 11C are also available. FOR ORDERING OPTIONS Introduction This instrument uses a graduated glass thermometer as an indicator. The divisions are etched on to the glass itself and the scale is printed on to the corresponding "V" formed aluminium housing. The assembly of the thermometer is practical and resistant to breakage if correctly installed. disturbing the contents of the vessel or pipeline. Special elastomers are fitted to render the glass capillary vibration resistant and the "V" formation of the housing protects the glass from external damage. All components are readily disassembled even on pipelines or tanks holding contents. This is made possible as the pocket or thermowell can be left in place without Dimensional Diagrams G Specs. 63mm 100mm A B 34.8 200.0 34.8 200.0 C D E F G 35.8 35.8 95.0 135.0 31.2 31.2 95.0 135.0 17.6 17.6 B A E D F C Dimensions in mm The combination of anodised aluminium and glass with etched numerals and graduations is highly resistant to sea water, acids, alkali and solvents and is thus suitable for use in a very wide range of applications. Specifications Design: Durable design, indicator housing/ glass insert/ thermowell/pocket/ components easily interchangeable. Temperature Ranges: -60 up to 600 ºC Insertion Lengths: 63mm, 100mm and 150mm Housing: Die Cast Aluminium; Brass anodised, VShaped scale section Stem Configurations: Vertical or 90 Degree Angle Thermowell/pocket: Brass or Stainless Steel Process Connection: ½" BSP or NPT Glass Thermometer: Vibration resistant with Blue Spirit or Mercury filled columns. Accuracy: 1% Construction The liquid-in-glass thermometer is very sensitive to temperature fluctuations and will give accurate, reliable indications over a wide range of temperatures. The indicator housing is forged in aluminium and the surface is anodised in a bright brass finish. The temperature measuring units are etched on the "V" formation of the housing, whilst the glass tube is etched with the corresponding temperature increments and is recessed into this "V" section of the shroud.
