Job Description JOB Electric Apparatus Technician TITLE: DIVISION: Energy Distribution DEPARTMENT: Engineering REPORTS TO: Lead Electric Apparatus Technician SUPERVISES: None FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt DATE ISSUED/REVISED: June 2014 GENERAL SUMMARY: The Electric Apparatus Technician serves as a member of the Cooperative by providing proper installation, programming, maintenance, and testing for all W-H electrical equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide correct meter installation and wiring for all types of electric single phase and polyphase services that meet NEC guidelines. 2. Inspect and test meters, apparatus, and wiring, keeping a schedule that complies with W-H and RUS guidelines. 3. Program, test and install AMR (Automated Meter Reading) meters. 4. Assist customers in AMR installations, communications, and downloads. 5. Perform control wiring and testing of commercial off-peak equipment including on-site generators and special metering equipment. 6. Assist engineering and construction personnel with installation and testing of substation control wiring, SCADA, metering, relaying, and communication equipment. 7. Coordinate testing and facilitate record-keeping of substation and distribution equipment using various test equipment and procedures. 8. Provide power quality meter programming, installation, downloading, and analysis of data as requested by customers. 9. Assist customers with internal power quality solutions. 10. Maintain inventory of parts and supplies with regards to all above duties. Title: Electric Apparatus Technician Date: June 28, 2007 Page: 2 11. Responsible for the upkeep of assigned vehicle. 12. Keeps assigned office and warehouse area clean. 13. Attend Job Safety Training Meetings and other related Engineering meetings, as assigned. 14. Observes all safety rules of the Cooperative and makes complete use of safety equipment provided. 15. Obeys all policies and rules of the Cooperative. 16. Provides instruction and teaches other employees on metering and basic electricity. JOB CRITERIA Education and Experience This position requires a high school diploma, 2 years of Electrical/Electronic Schooling, mechanical experience, and electrical experience. Key Competencies Technical Competencies: Knowledge of electricity and mechanics. Self-starter, reliable, safe worker, and able to work alone without close supervision. Good written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of computers, meter reading software and programming software. Accountability Full authority to carry out duties and responsibilities for the position; accountable to the Lead Electric Apparatus Technician for decisions and actions; shall secure Lead Electric Apparatus Technician approval for new ideas or when Cooperative policy is unclear. Working Conditions: Normally works in the field, often encountering vehicular traffic, poor weather conditions, slippery surfaces, animals, exposure to high voltage equipment and wiring, physical barriers, such as fences and uneven terrain. Interacts with consumers, contractors, W-H personnel and other utility terminal and keyboard daily. Continuing Education: All employees are expected and/or required to participate in W-H’s Training and Continuing Education program. Each employee will be counseled yearly on training opportunities and requirements required to maintain good standing.
