Features
The entire Argus system is
designed with the highest quality
materials to provide the fastest
installation and the best lighting performance
available. By combining the mechanical, electrical
and mounting connections into one location,
there is no guesswork in the installation.
This is truly a plug and play system.

Molded bayonets and
receivers insure the run
alignment is true and creates
a clean joint between the
modules. Two set screws lock
the modules together.
2
Suspension cables are
preset at the factory and
use snap in clips with adjustable
cable grippers for tool-less
height adjustment of the runs.

Directional cannon plugs
are molded into the die
cast bulkheads and contain
the connections for both line
voltage and low voltage wiring.
This takes the guesswork out of
the electrical connections.

Styles
Adjustability
Four different shielding options and two
different fluorescent lamp types combined
with module wiring and draw tight mechanical
connections to create a comprehensive
lighting design system.
Pattern Designs
Two different corner styles and unlit modules
allow the designer to create a pattern unique
to the space. The continuation of the housing
assures the power supply and communication
wiring is uninterrupted.
8 Philips Lightolier
Sensor System
The integrated sensor system can provide
occupancy control or daylight harvesting
functions while the combination sensor
provides both. With a single system, the
designer is given control and flexibility all the
while meeting stringent energy codes.
Performance
High performance lamp and ballast combinations reduce the amount of energy
consumed while pinpointing footcandle
levels in a space. Multiple shielding options
distribute light to the precise location in
the work space.

Controls
Energy Smart
Controls
Incorporating daylight and occupancy sensors into a lighting
system reduces energy consumption and complies with stringent
energy codes. Spaces with daylight harvesting systems exchange
non-renewable artificial light for daylight while improving the
productivity of the occupants.
Studies show that by using daylight sensors in a lighting system
energy consumption can be reduced by as much as 35% or more.
Besides reducing energy usage, providing a more comfortable work
environment and complying with energy codes, Argus is just plain
good for the environment.
Occupancy Control
Daylight Harvesting
Combination Control
Turning lighting off when no one is around is
perhaps the simplest and most economical
approach to energy conservation, where
occupancy is intermittent or departments
operate on different schedules.
Daylight and views are key elements of
sustainable design that enhance worker
performance and satisfaction. Harvesting the
available daylight by dimming electric lighting
is an increasingly practical method of saving
energy in those daylighted spaces.
Many areas can be effectively controlled
using both occupancy sensing and daylight
harvesting techniques. The Argus Combination
option (CM) is intended for these applications,
in both private offices or shared spaces.
All sensors can be installed in an end cap or in the middle
of any 8' fluorescent module. The Daylight Harvesting sensor
should be located so that it “sees” a typical area but does not
receive direct daylight.
18 Philips Lightolier
Controls
Occupancy Control
Argus incorporates occupancy
sensors (OS option) directly into
any Argus layout, simplifying
the design and installation
of the control system.
8'
The
Argus sensors are Passive
Infrared (PIR) devices that signal
power pack relays with a capacity
14' 5"
(4394 mm)
of 5 Amps each. Up to ten sensors
can be used on a single power pack
to assure full coverage of the lighted
space. This can be valuable in open
offices, where partitions may interrupt
“line of sight” sensors.

avoid nuisance tripping. The OS
option includes a “daylight hold

from turning on when daylight
is present (factory preset to
120 FC.) Both the time out
period and daylight hold off are
field adjustable.
Sensored fixtures can also
be integrated with an overall
building management system
for universal override when
additional energy savings is
required. Consult your Canlyte

Daylight Harvesting
Argus incorporates daylight
harvesting (DH option) directly
into any configuration, simplifying
the design and installation
of the control system. DH is
ideal for shared perimeter

The Argus DH option
of a “look
down” photosensor, a self-commissioning
controller, and dimming ballasts to dim
all or part of any Argus layout, up to
10 ballasts. The dimming signal is 0-10V,
using two low voltage conductors.
14' 5"
(4394 mm)
The controller is factory programmed to
compensate for approximately 50% of the
daylight read by the sensor and will dim
the Argus lighting correspondingly down
to the minimum level of the dimming
ballasts (1-5%, depending on the lamp
used). The DH option is “plug and play”;
no field calibration or adjustment is
required for basic operation.
Note that the DH control protocol
is designed to harvest daylight rather
than precisely maintain a preset level of
illumination.
The DH option can be used with
emergency battery packs and switching
control (use the Combination option for
both daylight harvesting and occupancy
sensing).

Combination Control
The Argus combination control (CM option)
consists of a sensor module with both
a PIR detector and a photocell, a controller
with power pack and dimming ballasts.
One controller can control up to
9 ballasts. The CM controller
1 ⁄"
⁄ "
(29 mm)
(14 mm)
uses DALI protocol.

1 9⁄16"
(40 mm)
14' 5"
(4394 mm)
The controller is factory programmed
to dim the electric lighting to achieve
55 FC when daylight is present. When
commissioned in the field, the CM option
automatically dims the electric lighting
to 80% for its non-daylight setting. (Note
that this is a different algorithm than
used in the DH option).
The occupancy sensor is preset to a 15
minute time out period (non-adjustable).
14' 5"
(4394 mm)
The CM option can be used with
emergency battery packs. Additionally,
where the Argus CM option is used in
private offices, the DALI protocol offers
the capability of personal dimming
through an IR remote or wall-mounted
push-button scene control. Scene control
is also appropriate for shared spaces and
classrooms.
The CM option uses the Philips Actilume
system, which offers more capability than
summarized here.
The CM option is also a great solution
for energy conservation in a classroom
environment. Fixtures will remain on
only when they are necessary and will
auto-dim based on available natural light
throughout the day. When required for
A/V presentations, an optional touchand-dim remote unit provides user
override for variable dimming. Consult
your Canlyte representative for details.
