The scanner follows the rules below to store scanned image files: • If the memory card or USB flash Root drive is used with the scanner for the directory first time, the scanner creates a folder named IRIS_IC1 in the root directory to store the scanned image files. Each image file has a prefix IMG followed by a 4-digit serial IMG_0001.jpg number in the sequence the image is IMG_0002.jpg stored. • If the file name reaches IMG_9999.jpg IMG_9999.jpg in the IRIS_IC1 folder, another new folder named IRIS_IC2 will automatically be created to store subsequent new files, IMG_0001.jpg and so on. IMG_0002.jpg • If the root directory already contains folders created by the scanner, the IMG_9999.jpg scanner will store the images in the last folder created. • There can be up to 9 folders (IRIS_IC1, IRIS_IC2... IRIS_IC9) in the root directory. If exceeded, IMG_0001.jpg delete some files or move files IMG_0002.jpg elsewhere to free up the space. .... .... .... IMG_9999.jpg Care and maintenance 17 Care and maintenance Cleaning the scanner In order to maintain the best image quality and prevent dust accumulation, clean the outer casing, image sensor and roller inside the scanner regularly (about every 50-100 scans, or whenever unwanted vertical/horizontal lines appear on scanned images). Nevertheless, you can still follow the suggestions below to extend the battery lifetime as long as possible: • Use the scanner at least once per week. • Charge the battery regularly. Never leave the battery fully discharged for a long time. • Keep the battery fully charged when not in use. If the scanner will not be used for several weeks, partially-discharge the battery before storage. • Keep the scanner and battery away from heat. If the scanner only works when it is connected to a computer, contact your dealer to replace the battery. WARNING: Do not attempt to replace the battery yourself. Incorrect handling of the battery or using a wrong type of battery may cause damages to the product or result in personal injuries. 20 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Problem: There are strange lines on the scanned image, or the image is not clear. Solution: Please ensure the following: • Are there scratches on the original, or is the original clean? Remove any stains or dust from the original before scanning. • Has the scanner been used for a long period of time without cleaning and calibration? Refer to Cleaning the scanner on page 17 and Calibrating the scanner on page 18 to clean and calibrate the scanner and then try again. Problem: The original gets stuck halfway in the feeding slot. Solution: Press the Power button. The original will be ejected from the scanner for 10 seconds so you can remove the jammed original. Problem: The Status indicator blinks rapidly and scanning is not possible. Solution: Check the following: • If a memory card is used, is it locked (set to writeprotect)? Unlock the card. • If a memory card is used, is it full? The indicator blinks when the free space on the memory card is below 1MB. Use another card if necessary. • If a memory card is used, is it in NTFS or other file system? The scanner only accepts memory cards in the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems. • Is the USB flash drive connected properly to the USB socket? Re-connect the drive and try again. • Did you insert the next original before the scanning process of the previous one is completed? Turn off and on the scanner and try again. Make sure that you scan the next original only after the scanning process of the previous one is completed • Does the length of the original exceed the maximum acceptable size? Refer to Suitable and unsuitable types of originals on page 15 for more information. Troubleshooting 21 Problem: The scanner feels warm to the touch. Solution: It is normal for the scanner to emit a small amount of heat (around 30-45 C) after prolonged use. However, if there are strange odors coming out from the scanner or the scanner feels hot to the touch, disconnect the scanner immediately from the power supply or the computer/ digital photo frame. Problem: The scanner does not respond to any operations. Solution: An internal error may have occurred. Insert a suitable object (like an extended paper clip) into the Off button hole on the bottom of the scanner to turn the scanner off. Turn on the scanner and then try again. Problem: The scanner’s startup (initialization) time becomes long. Solution: Try the following: • If you have formatted the memory card (if used) to the FAT32 file system, it is recommended that you re-format it to the FAT16 file system for the scanner to work faster. Note that re-formatting will erase all data in the memory. • If a memory card is used, the read/write speed of the card will also affect the startup time. Use a card with a faster read/write speed whenever possible. 22 Specifications Specifications 300 dpi x 300 dpi (fixed) 24-bit 157.4 (L) x 43 (H) x 54.5 (D) mm Dimensions (approx. value) (scanner only) Weight (approx. value) 230g (scanner only) See Supported memory card types on Supported memory card types page 16 Supported output image format JPEG (.jpg) USB or compatible with the USB 2.0 USB port specification Operating temperature 15 C ~ 35 C Operating humidity 20% ~70% RH Storage temperature -20 C ~ 60 C Storage humidity 10% ~ 95% RH Optical resolution Color depth
