Gaskets
Aquatherm has recently decided to no longer include an EPDM ring gasket with each of the flange adapters. The reason for this
decision is that by including a gasket there is an implication that it would be appropriate for all different applications and fluids, when
it is not. There are applications where the gasket material (EPDM, SBR, NBR, PFE, PTFE) or configuration (ring vs. full face) may
require alternate gaskets.
During this transition, product orders may result in the receipt of some flange adapters with gaskets and some without. If included,
and assuming the EPDM ring gasket is appropriate for the particular application, these gaskets may be used.
Aquatherm recommends using a full face rubber (black EPDM or red SBR) gasket with its flanges. Viton® gaskets may also be used
if needed for chemical resistance. The bolt and bolt torque do not change with these different gasket materials. Other materials
may require different bolt torque. The gasket should have an inside diameter consistent with the ID of the flange adapter. For lower
pressure systems, and smaller diameters (4” and down), ring gaskets may be used but there is the possibility of blow-outs during
pressure testing. Ring gaskets are also more susceptible to leaks if the flanges and connected piping are not aligned properly during
installation. The gasket should have an inside diameter consistent with the ID of the flange adapter.
It is important to note that any gasket material used, whether purchased from Aquatherm or another source, is not covered under
the Aquatherm warranty program.
On the following pages please find a Flange Adapter Table listing the dimensions of the various flange adapters available from
Aquatherm. This table may be used in selecting the proper size gasket for various sized flange adapters.
Also, please find a short listing of some alternative gasket manufacturers. These manufacturers have a large variety of different
gaskets and materials available. Please contact the individual manufacturers for specific details concerning price and availability.
