UCOL has the only specialist clinical exercise physiology centre of its kind in New Zealand. The UCOL U-Kinetics Te
Huinga Waiora Centre is a unique and innovative clinical exercise physiology centre that is leading the way in providing
supervised and specific exercise programmes for clients with medical conditions (e.g. cardiovascular or respiratory
disease, or diabetes), musculo-skeletal injuries or multiple health issues in a safe environment. The centre also utilises
specialist exercise equipment, such as the Technogym Wellness System which supports Clinical Exercise Physiologists
and students in capturing clients exercise data and ensuring the safety of participants during exercise.
U-Kinetics was established by UCOL in 2012 in collaboration with MidCentral District Heath Board (DHB), Central Primary
Health Organisation (PHO) and TBI Health to provide both an advanced exercise health service for the community and
applied learning for UCOL Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Exercise Physiology students. This centre has been very
successful in terms of both student and client outcomes, was a Health Workforce New Zealand demonstration site around
showcasing the role of the Clinical Exercise Physiologist in health, and was also a recipient of a MidCentral Health Award
in 2013.
Sim lab
UCOL’s Palmerston North campus boasts a unique Simulation Lab where students learn in our state-of-the-art simulation
laboratory to develop their skills. The Sim Lab operates through a digital network SimView and is available to all students
The installation allows for full integration of patient voice, vital signs, hi-definition video recording and debrief and network
activities within the two SimLab rooms.

It is a two room, four bed facility that replicates the layout, equipment and environment of a hospital ward. The lab
simulates normal practice in every way, with lifelike mannequin ‘patients’ each with their own personality and medical
history able to be controlled from behind a one way mirror. Students can work through clinical scenarios without teaching
staff in the room, rather being observed and videoed. Simulation occurs on all sites and supports students to demonstrate
skills and knowledge in a safe environment.

UCOL’s Regional Trades and Technology Centre is a state-of-the-art, ten million dollar facility with the latest industry-fit
equipment and teaching technology, complete with an indoor space large enough to build a 3 bedroom house. Home to
the schools of Built Environment, Automotive Industries and Engineering, the Centre incorporates leading- edge
technology and passionate commitment to the training and development of qualifies Tradespeople.
The Centre also has 4 x 3D printers as part of our specialist Design Solution Centre where students can work on industrybased projects.
The success of Managed Apprenticeships
Stakeholders are ‘over the moon’ with the advances that have been made by apprentices under UCOL’s Managed
Apprenticeships. Managers find it easy to follow progress and feedback from apprentices has been extremely positive.
Take a walk through time looking at the developments around rugby alongside the changes in New Zealand culture. Then
check out the interactive “Have A Go” section, where you can test out your rugby skills: sprinting, kicking, tackling, jumping
and pushing in a scrum!
This is your chance to find out more about out Military Core Values. (Courage, Commitment and Comradeship) and if you
have got what it takes to be an Officer in the New Zealand Defence Force.
You will be given a simple task to complete, which is timed. Clear instructions and equipment will be provided. Safety will
be monitored by Defence Staff and a debrief on performance will be given on completion. We will then any questions you
have.

the best possible opportunities to learn - and accelerate their careers! Come along and take a field trip around a number of
vital industries and employers to find out what it takes to be an apprentice.
Christmas Card Design
Introduction to Creative Process, Drawing and Page Layout Design.
Participants will be provided with a line from a Christmas Carol or Christmas related text to use as inspiration for an
Illustration. The Illustration will then form the basis for a Christmas Card design which participants will be able to print.

Following the workshop, participants will be able to;

Use the Creative Process to deconstruct a design brief and produce a range of concepts.

Draw and illustrate a chosen concept using a Still Life display.
•
Design and produce a simple Christmas Card using Adobe InDesign.
Participants will leave with 10 Christmas Cards print and folded.
