Psychology lab reports
Reports in Psychology are often called ‘lab reports’. These reports are structured in a specific way, based on what’s known as “APA style”. (APA stands for “American Psychological Association”, and the APA wrote the APA Publication manual of the American Psychological Association Sixth Edition , which is the main guide for writing style in Psychology.
APA research reports usually consist of four main content sections: Introduction, Method, Results, and
Discussion – plus an Abstract and a list of References at the end. You can find a description of each section in the recommended text for all Psychology units:
Findlay, B. (2015). How to write psychology research reports and essays (7th ed.). Frenchs Forest:
Pearson. [Link to PDF of Chapter 4 – pp 52-98]
Sample reports written in APA style are also available.
For first stage units, have a look at the appendices in the recommended text by Findlay.
For more advanced (second and third stage) units, you might also like to view the samples provided by the APA: http://www.apastyle.org/manual/related/sample-experiment-paper-1.pdf
