Scientific Information Resource Division (SIRD), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research
(IGCAR), Kalpakkam and Madras Library Association – Kalpakkam Chapter (MALA-KC)
have been conducting a series of conferences on Recent Advances in Information Technology
(READIT). The earlier conferences were conducted during 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2005,
2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 which were well received by professionals engaged in IT
and Library Science from R&D and Academic Institutions. It is now proposed to conduct
10th National Seminar on “REcent ADvances in Information Technology (READIT)”, a
two-day conference with a theme of “Information Access in Digital Era”. The conference will have
invited talks by experts in the field and selected contributed paper presentations from researchers
and professionals.
IGCAR is a premier R&D establishment of Department of Atomic Energy with an objective to
conduct a broad based multi-disciplinary program of scientific research and advanced engineering
development, directed towards the establishment of the technology of Sodium Cooled Fast
Breeder Reactors (FBR) in the country.
The SIRD at IGCAR is one of the the most modern information resource centers in India. SIRD is
finding innovative methods to serve the needs of its users who are located over a large campus
sprawling around 10 square kilometers. This is achieved by constantly enhancing and modernizing
the digital library infrastructure and services. Excellent infrastructural facilities like advanced
digital library servers, storages solutions, content creation facilities, enhanced e-resources,
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based library management, are available in addition to
conventional library services.
objective
READIT targets professionals in the field of IT, Library & Knowledge Management and provide a
forum for discussion, information access and knowledge transfer in libraries. How open access
and Cloud computing would benefit the library community? How Information can be shared in
consortia and virtual private networks? Whether knowledge representation would change the
definition of library services? What are the issues that are put forth in the information sharing
and knowledge creation technologies? What are the standards, languages and methods for
information sharing and how libraries have been doing it? These are some of issues that may be
discussed in detail.

venue
The Conference will be held at IGCAR, Kalpakkam, which is located 75 km south of Chennai,
the Capital of Tamil Nadu. It is also 10 km south of Mamallapuram, a fabulous South Indian
tourist spot which is famous for architecture and sculpture skills of Pallava Dynasty. Kalpakkam
is well connected by road and situated in the middle of Chennai to Pondicherry ECR scenic
beauty highway and surrounded by temple cities like Kancheepuram & Thirukazhukundram and
Vedanthankal Bird Sanctuary.
how to reach?
It takes about 3 hours to reach Kalpakkam from Chennai by State Transport Bus and about
2 hours by Taxi. All north bound trains are terminated at Chennai Central Railway Station and
south bound trains at Egmore Railway Station. The State Transport Buses for Kalpakkam (Route
No. 108, 119, 118, 188 or any ECR bus) starts from Koyambedu bus stand.
accommodation
Accommodation for out station participants can be arranged on nominal payment to a limited
number in the DAE Guest House/Hostels at Kalpakkam. For others accommodation can be
arranged in the hotels at Mamallapuram which is a popular tourist centre, about 10 km north of
Kalpakkam on payment basis.

The Conference track of READIT invites submission of papers to deliberate in the following areas:

• Towards Future Infrastructure for Libraries
Contributed papers on any of the above mentioned sub-topics are invited. A separate poster
session is planned during the conference for the contributed papers. A souvenir containing
abstracts of the invited talks/ contributed papers will be brought out at the time of the conference.
It is also proposed to bring out a proceeding of the conference in CD format. Papers received after
the due date will not be included in the proceedings.
A separate technical session consisting of oral presentations are being organized for Students
and Research Scholars who are in this field.

As a part of this conference an exhibition of latest products and publications is also arranged.

Interested persons are requested to fill-in the registration form and mail it to the convener latest
by 30th June, 2016. No presentation will be allowed without registration.
