With all of us in mind July 2012 Newton Lodge redevelopment update Welcome to our second update which aims to give local residents and other interested individuals the latest news on our redevelopment work, as well as remind you of my contact details, should you have any queries or concerns. Best wishes, Sue Threadgold, Project manager Tel 01924 327381 Email sue.threadgold@swyt.nhs.uk Background The Trust is carrying out a £12m redevelopment of Newton Lodge, our regional medium secure service. This involves demolishing and rebuilding on the existing Fieldhead site. The project is due for completion in August 2013. Everybody needs good neighbours! We would like to thank local residents for their continued patience and understanding with our redevelopment project. At the start of the project we committed to keeping local residents informed and being as considerate as possible - for example, not carrying out noisy or dusty works during school holidays. We hope you agree we have kept to our word and we look forward to continuing this spirit of co-operation. Planning applications Last year the Planning Authority approved a further planning application so we can re-furbish and improve the main Newton Lodge entrance; providing a more aesthetically pleasing approach and improving the secure boundary. This work is well underway and will be completed this summer. This year, further planning applications will be submitted by the Trust but these do not relate to Newton Lodge but to other services around the Fieldhead site. These applications will relate to New reception takes shape minor works to pre-existing units. The largest of these schemes is an extension of the Bretton Centre reception area to improve unit security and working conditions. This is still a very small extension and will not affect our neighbours as it is on part of the building that faces in to the site. Artwork reproduced with kind permission from service users at Newton Lodge Activity Centre opens The first phase of our redevelopment has now opened - the £4.8m Activity Centre. Sue Threadgold, clinical lead and project manager said, “We are delighted with the new Activity Centre; it is a fantastic space that will really improve the quality of life for people who receive care here, many of whom are with us for a number of years.” Dr Adrian Berry, the Trust’s director of forensic Activity centre services, said, “Our Activity Centre was completed on time and to budget. It is a significant investment for the Trust and, alongside the rest of the redevelopment, ensures that our buildings are a suitable environment in which to provide specialist, modern, high quality mental health care.” “A key feature of the Centre is the primary care suite which includes treatment and consulting rooms and a dental suite. This means we can ensure people we care for get exactly the same standard of NHS primary care as the rest of the country, but within our medium secure service.” What’s inside?
