Indication Systems
The GQ-4000 Indication System
provides accurate, centralized
indication of selected remote
variables. These variables may
be temperature, relative
humidity, position, and/or
humidity or temperature setpoint
value. All system components
are individually selected to
perform a variety of functions in
accordance with exact job
specification requirements.
Each GQ-4000 system is
composed of a regulated
24 VDC power supply, a DC
measuring bridge unit, a
variable resistance input source,
and a signal readout device. A
precision (±0.25% tolerance)
nickel wire temperature sensing
element, a CAB (cellulose
acetate butyrate) humidity
sensing element, or a feedback
potentiometer provides the input
to the DC measuring bridge unit.
The bridge output, linearly
proportional to the measured
variable, is applied directly to
the readout device without
additional amplification. The
GQ-4000 system design
includes overload protection for
indicating meters.
Specifications
The output of several DC bridge
units, with the same range, may
be switched into a single
receiver utilizing appropriate
switching devices.
Components
Power Supply
Power for the DC measuring
bridge unit(s) in the GQ-4000
system is provided by a
VQ-6100-1 or VQ-6500-1
Regulated DC Power Supply.
The VQ-6100 can supply
200 milliamperes, and the
VQ-6500 can supply
70 miliamperes (both at
24 VDC).

Measuring Bridge
The DC measuring bridge is the
GQ-4100, a DC Wheatstone
bridge circuit whose output
results from a varying resistance
in one or more of its legs.
GQ-4100 units are available in
several different ranges; refer to
Table 1. All units have separate
zero and span adjustments
enabling individual calibration of
each point in the system.
Variable Resistance Input
Sources
For temperature indication, any
TE-6000 precision (±0.25%
tolerance) nickel wire element
may be used as an input to a
bridge. For position indication
applications, use a PQ-1001
Damper Position Indicator. An
AQ-4102 Remote Reset Control
provides the input for remote
temperature and humidity reset
indication. It has a position
indication potentiometer ganged
to its remote reset potentiometer
for accurate indication of the
amount of reset. The position
indication potentiometers in the
PQ-1001 and AQ-4102 are
5000 ohms.
Signal Readout Devices
MZ-7000 series meters are
used as indicators for the
GQ-4000 system. These basic
readout devices have a fixed
internal resistance of 2000
ohms to accept a linear 0 to
100 microampere signal from
any GQ-4100 bridge. Meter
scale ranges are listed in
Table 1; the meter scale must
match the range of its
associated bridge unit.
To record measured variables,
the output of a bridge (0 to
100 microamperes across
2000 ohms) is applied to a
precision recorder. When a
GQ-4100 bridge is used with a
high impedance receiver, a
2000-ohm resistor must be
placed across the receiver input
or bridge output.

Mounting Assemblies
Table 2 lists the various GQ-4000
mounting assemblies available for
GQ-4100 bridges. Bridges are
ordered separately (see Table 1) as
are resistance input sources and
readout devices.
Enclosures are surface mounted,
heavy-gauge steel cabinets with
knockouts to facilitate wiring.
Assemblies can be combined if
necessary.
