NEW KENSINGTON ARNOLD SCHOOL DISTRICT Position: Maintenance Worker Supervisor: Director of Building & Grounds Department: Building and Grounds Revision Date: February 22, 2016 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt Time: Full time – 12 month – hourly Position Overview: This position is responsible to provide overall care, maintenance, and repair of all District Facilities and Buildings, grounds, athletic fields, equipment, furniture and fixtures. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to general working knowledge and ability to address preventive maintenance, repair or replacement within the disciplines of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, heating, ventilating, roofing, floor/wall coverings, security devices and other physical items. Capable to perform general custodial/janitorial and general cleaning as directed and able to operate District vehicles, including pick-up trucks with snow plow, small dump truck with snow plow, small box truck, and passenger and cargo vans. Responsible to maintain all assigned facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment in a state of optimum operational condition to prevent operational interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the educational program. Requirements: • • • • • • • • • • • • Must be 18 years old High School Diploma or equivalent Technical School certification or relevant experience preferred Valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License Required Experience working with groups preferred Ability to communicate (both orally and in writing), interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds Ability to understand and follow instructions and procedures Ability to complete routine paperwork Ability to work with large groups, including staff and students, and/or students with special needs Common sense, problem solving, mediation skills and mature attitude Professional, enthusiastic, and flexible to meet the demands of public school Criminal background Check required – Act 34 (Criminal History), Act 151 (Child Abuse) and Act 114 (FBI Background) Time and Compensation • Hourly – non-exempt - 8 hours per day, plus ½ hour unpaid, duty free lunch period • Work schedule may require additional varying work hours and days to include evenings, nights and/or weekends. • Position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Job Description – Maintenance – page 1 of 1 Additional Position Requirements: Must have the knowledge and ability to work independently without close supervision to administer a preventive maintenance program, analyze equipment breakdowns, estimate time and material costs, cope with emergencies, read/understand instructions, schematics and working drawings, have a basic knowledge of criteria for recommending whether to repair, replace, or abandon deteriorated components/materials. Maintenance person must have basic knowledge of the various trades and be capable of operating necessary equipment. Essential Job Functions: • Ability to work with others and communicate effectively. • Administer a preventive maintenance program. • Maintain accurate records of general school assets including vehicles and grounds maintenance vehicles. • Maintain records of completed work order to include expended time and material. • Ability to operate over the road school vehicles such as automobile, pick up trucks, school transportation vans. • Ability to perform general custodial/janitorial and general cleaning such as sweeping, cleaning restrooms, garbage pick up, run power floor care equipment, clear roads/parking lots, shovel sidewalks, painting/plastering, and other such items. • Ability to maintain confidentiality by not divulging information (facts or rumors) concerning other employees, students, and school business to those not having authorized need to know. • Ability to maintain an attitude and willingness to cooperate with all other members of the staff and student body to help bring about the best learning environment possible. • General knowledge of electrical systems and ability to maintain, test, repair and/or replace electrical wiring, switches, small electric motors, fuses & breakers, generators, starters, ballast, bulbs, smoke & fire alarms, security systems, intercom systems, and other related equipment. • General knowledge of general carpentry and ability to perform general carpentry, including installation and maintenance of door closures, door panic hardware, door handles & knobs, door hinges, door and window frames & jambs, walls, ceiling tile & hardware, replace broken glass, and other related functions. • General knowledge of plumbing & mechanical and ability to perform general plumbing & mechanical tasks, including clearing drain pipe & main line sewage line blockages, maintain condensate lines, maintain, repair, or replace facets, urinals, toilets and sinks, general piping, pressure regulators, mixing valves and backflow devices. • General knowledge of heating and ventilating systems and ability to perform general tasks such as reading gauges, check safety valves & devices, change filters, clean coils, install belts, adjust manual & automatic controls, lubricate mechanical apparatus.
