CE Marking: your access to the European market
The CE Mark signifies a product’s compliance with uniform safety standards and allows it to
be imported and exported across European borders. It is the “safety-tested” certificate from
TÜV SÜD. With this mark, you can assure your customers and users that your product has
been designed, tested and verified according to globally-accepted standards.
TÜV SÜD Certification Mark: your commitment to complete safety
The unique TÜV SÜD type certification allows you to distinguish yourself from your
competitors. It demonstrates that your charging station has been verified according to TÜV
SÜD criteria, including:
• The fulfilment of existing requirements such as:
−− IEC 61851-1:2010 and EN 61851-22:2002
−− electrical safety and EMC requirements
−− environmental protection and protection against vandalism
• The complete technical documentation of the charging station pertaining to the correct
selection of and compliance with local connection requirements
• A commissioning inspection once the installation is complete
• Regular recurrent inspections during operation (a requirement to keep the test mark)

Acceptance of the electric vehicles by consumers is largely dependent on how conveniently
and safely the vehicles can be powered up. The establishment of an electric vehicle
charging distribution network is a critical prerequisite. While modern energy grids can
provide the electricity required for these charging points, they pose significant risks in terms
of supply compatibility and safety.
Environmental simulation / Service-life testing
Electric vehicle charging installations are exposed to a wide variety of environmental
conditions. This places tremendous demands on the durability and safety of the charging
units. In order to ensure their safe operation, the components must therefore be designed
with these environmental conditions in mind. TÜV SÜD can accurately simulate these
environmental conditions and incorporate the results into your product designs. Our

Electrical safety testing
Electrical safety is an extremely critical consideration when high voltage installations are
involved. Based on a comprehensive test plan developed by TÜV SÜD, we can conduct type
testing, certification and production inspection based on:
• IEC 61851-1:2010: Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging System – Part 1: General
Requirements
• EN 61851-22:2002: Electric Vehicle Charging System; AC Electric Vehicle Charging Unit
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing
Just like any other electrical equipment, an operating charging station needs to fulfil
regulatory EMC requirements through testing in accordance with:
• EN 55014-1 and -2: Electromagnetic emissions and immunity
• EN 610000-3-2 and -3: Effects on public power supply systems
Preliminary assessment
• Facilitating negotiations with the relevant authorities and property owners of potential EV
charging stations locations. Among others, these might include underground basements,
large garages or car parks, conventional filling stations, hospitals, municipal facilities or
retail chain stores
• Examining the property’s electrical grid system and legal risks regarding approvals
• Analysing the effects of charging units on local supply voltage and conducting surveys
on substitute networks
• Analysing load flows, short-circuit currents and selectivity
• Preparing concepts for cost-effective measures pertaining to supply reliability
Commissioning / Inspection During Operation
All electro-technical equipment is subjected to wear and tear over time, especially when
located in public spaces that are exposed to harsh environmental conditions and vandalism.
