LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT REFERENCE GUIDE TITLE: Revision of the UC/CSU A-G Approved Course List NUMBER: REF-5833.4 ISSUER: Frances Gipson, Ph.D., Chief Academic Officer Division of Instruction Jesus Angulo, Director College and Career Education ROUTING Local District Superintendents Local District Instructional Directors Secondary School Principals Assistant Principals Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS) College Counselors Counselors DATE: March 31, 2016 MAJOR CHANGES: This revision replaces REF-5833.3, Revision of the UC/CSU A-G Approved Course List, dated September 2, 2015. The content has been revised to update procedures for revising the UC/CSU A-G Approved Course List, and to provide new procedures for updating the school’s accreditation information required by the University of California Office of the President (UCOP). PURPOSE: This Reference Guide delineates procedures for school personnel to revise and update the school’s University of California/California State University (UC/CSU) A-G approved course list for each school year. GUIDELINES: The following information and guidelines are provided for schools serving students in grades 9 – 12. I. PROCEDURES FOR UPDATING COURSE LISTS All high schools must update their UC/CSU A-G approved course list for school year 2016-17 by submitting all changes, in writing, to the Local District Counseling Coordinator by Friday, May 6, 2016. The Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS) or APSCS Designee and the College Counselor are to work together to compare the UC/CSU A-G course list with the school’s current master schedule of courses and the planned course offerings for SY 2016-17. Following the Master Schedule collaboration on A-G courses, the APSCS or designee will: • Go to the University of California Course Management Portal (https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/all) and print a copy of the school’s 2015-16 A-G course list. • Identify A-G courses that will be offered in the 2016-17 school year that do not appear on the school’s 2015-16 course list. On Attachment A, clearly print or type the course titles, District course numbers, REF-5833.4 Division of Instruction Page 1 of 9 March 31, 2016 LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT REFERENCE GUIDE • • transcript abbreviations, and honors designations of all courses that are to be added, including online courses (See Section II below). The current AP syllabus number must also be listed for each AP course added. Identify A-G courses that are on the school’s 2015-16 course list that will not be offered in the 2016-17 school year. On Attachment B, print clearly or type the course titles, District course numbers, transcript abbreviations, and honors designations of all courses that are to be archived (removed). Remove duplicate courses from the A-G list: o If schools are removing duplicate courses, write the duplicate course title on Attachment B, and write “duplicate” next to it. When the course revisions for the 2016-17 school year have been completed, send a copy of the school’s 2015-16 course list, and the “UC/CSU A-G Approved Course List Revision Forms” (Attachments A and B) to your Local District Counseling Coordinator (http://achieve.lausd.net/Page/7778 ) and keep a copy at the school site. Even if there are no changes in the school’s 2016-17 A-G approved course list, schools must indicate “no changes” on the revision forms (Attachments A and B) and submit the documentation to the Local District Counseling Coordinator. Please Note: Only courses labeled as AP, Honors, or IB in the UC Honors column will receive an augmented point in the Grade Point Average (GPA). All other honors courses, though identified as honors by LAUSD, have not been approved by the UC system as honors level and will not receive the augmented point in the GPA. The honors section of such courses will only be listed as a transcript abbreviation. Courses will be added electronically on the UC Course Management Portal (CMP), for each school, by the Central Office District Course List Manager. No course additions should be made on the CMP by the school. The Local District Counseling Coordinator will log into the UC Course Management Portal at https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcmp/login#/ and archive courses that will not be offered during the 2016-17 school year, as listed on Attachment B, by August 31, 2016. II. ONLINE COURSE OFFERINGS Online courses that will be offered in the 2016-17 school year must be listed on Attachment A. The Central Office District Course List Manager will add the online courses electronically on the UC Course Management Portal.
