5.5 General recalls will be as per RRS 29.2 except, if the starting signal for the recalled class was also the warning
signal for the next class, the next start will proceed and their starting signal will become the recalled class’ new
warning signal. This amends RRS 29.2.
5.6 If flag U has been displayed as the preparatory signal no part of a boat’s hull, crew, or equipment shall be in the
triangle formed by the ends of the starting line and the first mark during the last minute before her starting signal. If
a boat breaks this rule and is identified she shall be disqualified without a hearing but not if the race is restarted, resailed, postponed or abandoned before the starting signal. This amends RRS 26.
5.7 Crews’ races will take place as the last race on Friday as per 5.4.
6.0 Racing Area and Course Marks
6.1 The “adidas” course area will be run from the Committee Boat.
6.2 The “LV” course area will be run from the Platform.
6.3 A list of marks is on a separate sheet which will be made available to competitors at registration.
7.0 The Courses
Course sheets will be issued separately to competitors. There is a different course sheet for each class.
The course to be sailed will be indicated by boards displayed on the Platform or Committee Boat.
When preceded by one or more class boards, the course displayed will only apply to the class(es) indicated.
All marks are rounding marks, except where specifically indicated otherwise.
There are three types of course used: Default courses, Ad-Hoc courses or Course Sheet courses.
7.1 Default Courses (adidas course only)
The default course will be signalled by displaying a Red or Green board. This will also indicate the direction of
rounding (Port or Starboard respectively).

buoys with Black bands carrying adidas logos.
XOD (Wednesday only) - Windward / Leeward course of 2 Orange inflatable buoys with Black Bands carrying adidas
logos
7.2 Ad-Hoc Courses
An Ad-Hoc course is indicated by a series of boards with symbols representing individual marks of the course. These
are read from left to right. Mark symbols will be displayed on a Red or Green background denoting that the marks
shall be rounded to Port or Starboard respectively.
The course symbols may be followed by a numeral, a circle (), or a square ().
A numeral indicates the number of rounds to be sailed. Competitors shall cross the Finish line at the end of each
round.
The  sign will be used only when the course consists of three marks which are to be rounded as follows:
Rounds One & Three: First mark, Second mark, Third mark
Rounds Two & Four: First mark, Third mark.
Competitors shall cross the Finish line at the end of each round.
The  sign will be used only when the course consists of three marks which are to be rounded as follows:
Round One: First mark, Second mark
Subsequent rounds: Third mark, Second mark.
On each round of an ad-hoc course, competitors shall cross the finish line at the end of each round and continue
until the course is shortened.
7.3 Course Sheet Courses
The course to be sailed will be indicated by a wind direction board and a number board. (e.g. NW1)
The Wind direction will be denoted on a board with a pink background and will be the left-most board on the
Starboard side of the Committee Boat or the south side of the platform. The same wind direction board will apply to
courses of all classes.
8.0 Exclusion zones
8.1 No boat may pass between North Haven Beacon (Channel Mark No 13) and the Sandbanks shore.
8.2 Commercial Vessels exclusion zones.
Boats must not manoeuvre in such a manner that they interfere with the safe navigation of commercial vessels.
No boat shall cross the channel less than 300m in front of a large commercial vessel underway.
When a large commercial vessel is manoeuvring within the Turning Basin or the Little Channel, racing boats shall stay
clear.
Any boat that passes between a large commercial vessel and either the Harbour Master’s Launch or a PYC RIB flying
Flag U running in front of the ship may be disqualified by the Race Committee, without a hearing or redress, from
Tel: 01202 743610

office@parkstoneyc.co.uk
the race or the series. The chain ferry is a large commercial vessel for the purposes of this instruction. This alters
RRS. 60.2 and 63.1.
These exclusion zones apply to boats transiting to and from the race course, as well as when racing.
9.0 Propulsion to avoid commercial shipping
In order to avoid a collision a competitor may use sufficient alternative propulsion, or accept assistance, in order to
remove itself from immediate danger, as allowed in RRS 42.3 (i). This should be declared at the Beachmaster hut on
coming ashore.
10.0 Start and Finish
10.1 Start Lines
10.1.1 adidas course: The start line will be between a black and yellow staff on the Committee Boat and the Outer
Starting Mark which will be either a buoy or launch with an orange flag. The approximate provisional position of the
committee boat will be shown on the board near the Beachmaster’s hut.
10.1.2 LV course: The start line will be between a black and yellow staff on the Platform and the Outer Starting
Mark which will be a buoy flying an orange flag.
10.2 Late Starters
A boat starting later than 10 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Compete. This changes RRS A4.
10.3 Finish Lines
10.3.1 adidas course: The finish line will be between the staff flying a blue flag on the finish boat and a buoy or
launch flying a blue flag. On Wednesday only if racing in Poole Bay this finish mark will be an orange inflatable buoy
with a white “Craft Insure” banner.
10.3.2 LV course. The finishing line will be between a blue staff on the Platform and the Outer Finishing Mark which
will be a buoy flying a blue flag.
10.4 Shortening Course
When Flag F is displayed with repeated sound signals at or near a mark, boats shall sail directly to cross the normal
finish line after rounding that mark. This changes RRS 32.
10.5 Stragglers
Any boat may be awarded a finishing position whilst still on the course. This is entirely at the discretion of the Race
Officer whose decision is final. No application for redress can be made. This changes RRS 62 ‘Redress’.
11.0 Protests and Requests for Redress
Protest forms are available at the Haven Office near the Beachmaster Hut. Any protest shall be delivered there
within 45 minutes of the last boat finishing the last race of the day on that course. This is extended to 75 minutes
for the adidas course when in the Bay.
The time and place of protest hearings will be posted on the Official Notice Board as soon as possible following
receipt of each protest. It is the sole responsibility of each competitor to consult this notice board and to be
present, together with any witnesses, at any hearing to which they are a party. Hearings convened in accordance
with this Sailing Instruction may proceed despite the failure of one, or any, party to attend. Any boat bringing a
protest that is deemed by the Protest Committee to be frivolous shall be disqualified.
