Queensbury School
Essential Exam Information – 2015 / 16
YEAR 11
Dear Parent / Carer
At Queensbury School we value the role that parents play in their children’s
education very highly. We know that where school, home and pupils work together
and communicate effectively the greatest progress happens and pupils are in the
best place to be successful.
In order to help you to support your child’s learning in year 11 we have put together
this booklet. In it you will find details of the exam board studied by each subject,
coursework deadlines, an overview of the topics studied and advice on how to
support your child to be successful. You will also find details of revision guides which
are recommended for students by each subject. We would encourage you, wherever
possible, to purchase these for your child and support them in using them to revise.
If you have any further questions about your child’s examination courses or how you
can help your child to succeed in their Key Stage 4 examinations please don’t
hesitate to get in touch with us.

Parent / Carer Information
Stress the importance of completing homework and classwork on time. If students
miss lessons they need to speak to their teacher to catch up.
Students need to take responsibility for all materials and books given to them as
they will be needed for revision in two years’ time.
Students sit four exams, so it is important that they continually review and revise
topics they have covered throughout the course.
AQA are working in partnership with Cambridge publishers and they recommend
their products. However Collins also produce good revision guides.

Pupils can make rapid improvements in their language learning by following some
simple steps:
 Keep work in their exercise book as clear and neat as possible.
 Make a list of new words (vocabulary) and learn these every week. Parents
can be a great help with this!
 You Tube can be a great source of information for assisting with language
learning – there are lots of useful Spanish clips on here.
 Students can watch cartoons / films in the Spanish language and put on
English subtitles or vice versa. This is a great way of improving listening
skills.
 Please be involved with your child’s learning and test them / assist them
with their learning preparation.
 Students need to attempt past papers, these are available from the Edexcel
website and also from the BBC Bitesize website.
