CADD Drawings Standard Bookmarked PDF files of all Schematic Drawing Documents, and original working documents in MS Office 2007 format and AutoCAD files of all drawings per CUMC CAD Layering Standards are required for all capital projects. For a detailed outline of the CADD layering standards, please see Attachment Layer and Font Standarads. All project architectural and engineering drawings must also be populated into the CUMC electronic document management system. The architect may also provide these documents in a pdf format on a CD-ROM to the attention of Capital Project Management. Columbia University has computerized construction related documents. The intent of these standards is: • • • not to jeopardize the efficiency of the consultant’s internal drawing/development methods by imposing overly ambitious CAD standards; to provide a set of documents that are consistent with the needs of Columbia University for accurate archival, reference, and furniture construction; and to avoid duplication of existing drawings (base floor plans of most buildings and a site plan in CAD are available for reference). Columbia University has adopted CAD layer guidelines which closely conform to the AIA (American Institute of Architects) standards. With respect to the various systems, software, mad standards used in today’s industry, we ask that our format be followed as closely as possible. Layer numbering can be ignored on systems that do not have this feature. Elements not conforming to the list provided must be given their own layer and listed accordingly. Format/Media A. All CAD drawings will be submitted in AutoCAD R12 or higher format (.DWG). Drawing Exchange format (.DXF) will be accepted only if .DWG formatted files are unavailable. B. All drawing files will be submitted on a CD ROM or to an FTP site. C. In addition to CAD drawings of specific areas, an additional file must be delivered to reflect said changes on the entire floor of the job in progress. These changes can be indicated on a copy on a university standard space plan file, which are typically used for consultant distribution. D. All submitted files will be clearly labeled with the Columbia University Facilities project number, building code, sheet numbers, consultant name, construction completion date, date of submittal, and list of drawing files. Labels will be firmly attached to the media submitted. Drawing Organization A. All drawing files will be 100% complete and will be submitted when construction is finished. Manual corrections not reflected in the CAD drawings are not acceptable. B. There will be one drawing file for each drawing sheet and it will include only the information on that drawing sheet. Depending on the system/software used, the “PURGE ALL” command or equivalent will be performed prior to submittal to remove unused elements. C. All building drawings will be orientated such that the northern face of the building is at the top of the drawing. D. If Architectural and Mechanical symbols are used which are not identified by a legend on the sheet upon which they appear, then a separate drawing file containing those symbol legends or those symbol definitions will accompany the drawing files on the same diskette as the drawing file where they are used. E. All drawing schedules (i.e., Door Schedules, Mechanical Equipment Schedules, Electrical Panel Schedules, etc.) that are used will have an equivalent ASCII file on the same diskette as the drawing file where they are used. F. Room numbers, building codes, and building names established by Columbia University will be used on all submittal drawings. G. The consultant is responsible for utilizing a uniform sheet size for each set of project drawings submitted. Drawing Documentation A. Layers – For each drawing file the consultant will submit a separate ASCII file with a complete list of all layers containing the following information: 1. The layer name as it appears on the drawing file. 2. Expanded description of layer name. 3. List of elements placed on that layer (i.e., bearing walls, partitions, plumbing, fixtures, etc.). 4. The default color and line type of layer. All layer names provided by the consultant will not exceed 16 characters and will conform to University naming conventions outlined in the layer requirements; these standards are derivative of the 1990 Cad Layer Guidelines of recommended designations for architecture, engineering, and facility management computer aided designs. The colors for these layers should be limited to 1(red), 2(yellow), 3(green), 4(cyan), 5(blue), 6(magenta) or 7(white). B. Text – Lettering font will be limited to Simplex font for small fonts and Bigfont for big fonts. Systems lacking these fonts will utilize the simplest text font available to them. In the event that other fonts are used they must be included with the drawing file. C. Scale – All elements should be drawn on a 1 to 1 scale such that distances reflect true size. D. Symbols/Blocks – Symbols will follow the convention as outlined in the latest edition of Architectural Graphic Standards published by the American Institute of Architects. 1. All mirrored symbols, blocks, dimensions, or other composite entities such as doors and windows should be reflected with respect to x-axis or y-axis only. 2. Windows will consist of two or three parallel lines; window mullions are required. 3. Doors will be drawn using double lines 2” apart and a single are to indicate door swing. Swing will be shown at 90 degrees to door opening whenever possible. Doorjambs should not be drawn. Drawing Specifics 1. Architectural A. Non-full height partitions will be drawn as walls and put on A-WALL-LOW layer. To distinguish partitions from other interior walls, partitions intersecting walls will not be a trimmed. B. Construction layout lines used in the drawing will exist on a unique layer. All construction lines used in the drawing which do not apply to a basic building layout or are not specific to the integrity of the drawing to which they apply will be deleted. 2. Utilities A. All utility drawings will be drawn to actual size. B. When clustered utilities hinder interpretation, a separate detail will be required and referenced to the area. C. Dimension exact spacing between underground utility lines to the inch. D. If utilities outside the building are affected, a separate utility scheme (drawing) will be submitted.
