Bulletin February 2015 Version 2015 ICD-10-CA/CCI Classifications, Canadian Coding Standards for v2015 ICD-10-CA and CCI and Evolution tables now available Version 2015 ICD-10-CA/CCI Classifications The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) is pleased to announce that version 2015 ICD-10-CA/CCI Folio application is now available to download from the CIHI website. Version 2015 ICD-10-CA/CCI comes into effect April 1, 2015. We recommend that you complete this process early to allow yourself sufficient time to address any questions you may have prior to April 1. Streamlined Download Process Licences for version 2015 ICD-10-CA/CCI are embedded in these downloadable products. For your convenience, there is only one step required for downloading. The licencing has changed for this version so it is important to read the download instructions carefully to avoid incorrect charges being applied. Summary of Changes ICD-10-CA has 85 new codes and 26 disabled codes. The new codes in version 2015 of ICD-10-CA include the 2011, 2012 and 2013 updates to ICD-10 received from the Update and Revision Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as some additional Canadian enhancements including added laterality for certain malignant neoplasms, new codes for central line associated blood stream infections, updated code titles for fetal acidemia, and new codes for mechanical complications of hip and knee replacements. CCI has 498 new codes and 297 disabled codes. The updates to CCI include new codes for cardiac resynchronization therapy, new mandatory attributes for excisions of lesions and sentinel lymph node biopsies, and revisions to the codes for central line insertions. Shadow file The version 2015 ICD-10-CA and CCI Shadow Files (.sdw) include a new functionality called “Export Notes” that allows you to export your personal notes to a log file where your notes are listed in the order they appear in your Shadow File. Page 1 Bulletin Note: The “Upgrade Shadow” feature that allows you to merge your version 2012 Shadow Files with the version 2015 Classifications will still remain. Canadian Coding Standards for Version 2015 ICD-10-CA and CCI CIHI is pleased to announce that the Canadian Coding Standards for Version 2015 ICD-10-CA and CCI are available in English and French, in CIHI’s eStore. They are also available on the Coders’ Resource Page of CIHI’s website (www.cihi.ca). This version of the Canadian Coding Standards incorporates changes found in version 2015 of ICD-10-CA and CCI and applies to fiscal years 2015–2016, 2016–2017 and 2017–2018. The next release of the Canadian Coding Standards will be in 2018. These Canadian Coding Standards are effective beginning with April 1, 2015 separations and apply to all data submitted to the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) (Level 3 NACRS reporting). What Has Changed? Commenting tools have been enabled in the coding standards in response to stakeholder consultations. Adobe Reader version XI allows you to use notes, text boxes and drawing tools such as highlighting and underlining. Two resources have been posted to the Coders’ Resource Page, “How to Search Within Acrobat” and “How to – Commenting in Acrobat Reader” to assist in using this feature and in searching the PDF. If you require further assistance, please contact your facility’s IT department. The use of the commenting features is optional and not a requirement for facilities. Appendix C—Table of Changes provides a comprehensive summary of all of the content changes made to the Canadian Coding Standards. Evolution Tables for version 2015 ICD-10-CA/CCI To assist with data retrieval from one version of the classification to the next, you may wish to purchase our Evolution Tables. Evolution Tables trace the heritage of a current code in the classification and are useful as a quick guide to understanding macro changes within the classification. They will be available for use as of April 1, 2015 to align with implementation of version 2015. The What's New for Classifications and Terminologies for v2015? (Web Conference) and Moving Forward using v2015 of ICD-10-CA and CCI (Self-Study) will be available in February 2015 to support the transition from version 2012 to version 2015.
