An aerial view of the new pump station under construction
• Constructing a new pump station next to the existing pump station
• Installing a new odour control facility
• Installing a new facility to safely dispose of waste from recreational vehicles (RV’s) or motor homes
• Decommissioning the existing pump station and removing the building.
Barwon Water’s sewerage system comprises 10 water reclamation plants, over 170 sewerage pump stations and more than 2,200 kilometres of sewerage pipelines.
Parts of this system are currently being upgraded to improve services and to accommodate future growth in the region.
As part of this program, we are replacing a sewerage pump station at Cowies Creek in northern Geelong. It is located in
Deppeler Park on Melbourne Road.
It collects flows from northern Geelong,
Norlane, Corio and Lara. These flows are then transferred to the Black Rock Water
Reclamation Plant.
Once complete, the new Cowies Creek pump station will be the second largest pump station in the Barwon Water system.
Construction of the new pump station is progressing well and we are nearing completion. The final stage of work includes decommissioning and removing the existing pump station and landscaping the area.
Once construction of the new pump station is complete and the old pump station is decommissioned, we will plant over
750 trees at the site. Trees and shrubs will be planted around the new pump station and in the reserve and the fence around the reserve will be removed to re-open the reserve to the public.
We are working with the City of Greater Geelong to landscape the area and expect to start planting in September 2011.
We expect to complete our works in October 2011.
This project is part of the Barwon Water Alliance extensive capital works program. The Alliance combines the skills and experience of Barwon Water, design and engineering company GHD and construction company John Holland.
