One of the country’s most selective public research universities, Clemson University serves a uniquely
driven and highly accomplished student body. Ranked as the 21st best national public university
by U.S.News & World Report, Clemson is a science- and engineering-oriented college dedicated to
teaching, research and service. Founded in 1889, we remain committed both to world-class research
and a high quality of life.
Our beautiful college campus sits on 1,400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the
shores of Hartwell Lake. But we also have research facilities and economic development hubs
throughout the state of South Carolina — in Greenville, Greenwood, Columbia and Charleston.
The research, outreach and entrepreneurial projects led by our faculty and students are driving
economic development and improving quality of life in South Carolina and beyond. In fact, a recent
study determined that Clemson has an annual $1.83 billion economic impact on the state.
Just as founder Thomas Green Clemson intertwined his life with the state’s economic and educational
development, the Clemson Family impacts lives daily with their teaching, research and service
IT'S IN
YOURPOWER.
Clemson gifts have the power to create opportunities and experiences that
engage minds, capture imaginations, inspire innovation and multiply
knowledge in ways never dreamed possible — all while lifting our national
ranking to where it belongs.
Clemson Forever is not just a promise for the near future. It is an unrelenting mission to build a strong foundation that will hold high the ideals of
our University forever.
The commitment of the Clemson Family is steadfast. It is powerful. It is empowering.
Your gifts will help Clemson today, Clemson tomorrow, CLEMSON FOREVER.
The Clemson University Foundation, chartered in 1933, is an
independent,
not-for-profit
501(c)(3)
organization
that
promotes the welfare and future development of Clemson
University. We seek financial
support through
annual
gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving and other ongoing fund
-raising programs. We manage the university’s endowment of over $600 million and disburse assets prudently
within a policy that encourages the enhancement of the resources of the Foundation. We are governed by a
Board of Directors consisting of accomplished Clemson alumni and friends who share in the pride of the
University's history and who are committed to its promise in the years to come.
The mission of the Clemson University Foundation is to support Clemson University by
promoting growth and stewardship of resources entrusted to us which fulfill our covenants with donors.
The vision of the Clemson University Foundation will be long-term, stable and significant
provider of resources in supporting Clemson University's goals.
In all we do, the Clemson University Foundation will conduct itself with the strictest adherence
to the following core values:
Independence permits flexibility in the options for short-term investment of money needed for near-term
expenditures and in choosing long-term investment opportunities for endowment assets. An independent
foundation can accept and sell property more expeditiously than the state. Additionally, an independent
organization can more effectively maintain confidentiality of donor information when anonymity is
important to benefactors.
An affiliation agreement between the University and the Foundation establishes a symbiotic and supportive
relationship among the entities and pledges the foundation‘s commitment to at all times further the
mission of the university.
The Foundation constantly searches for new products and
portfolio management techniques to improve returns and/or
control the risk associated with these returns. In correctly
discharging its duties, the Foundation provides an attractive
alternative in which donors may entrust their assets designated
for the benefit of Clemson University.

It’s about goals — meeting critical needs while we lead Clemson to the future
Support for our students and faculty is crucial. In order to fund the areas of strategic need pinpointed in
trustees-approved 2020 Road Map, our committed volunteers made the bold campaign goal of $1 billion.
This is the largest goal ever set by a public university with an alumni base of our size.
It’s about success — look how far we have come in support of students and faculty
The Will to Lead campaign began in 2006 when the Clemson University Foundation
recommended a campaign to raise needed support for Clemson students and
faculty. In spite of one of the worst economic climates in our nation’s history, our
alumni and friends answered the call with determined spirit, exceeding our July 2012
goal of $600 million by nearly $9 million. These funds allowed Clemson to:

grant 357 scholarships and fellowships to deserving students,
establish 95 new endowed chairs, professorships and faculty support,
increase student engagement opportunities including the Creative Inquiry program, and
impact through new construction or renovation more than one million square feet of facilities.
And now we lead on to our $1 billion goal. For future students. For future opportunities. The future won’t
wait. And neither will we.
Your Will to Lead makes Clemson great. We need it now more than ever.
To ensure that Clemson will be here forever, the $1 billion Will to Lead for Clemson campaign was launched
in 2006 in support of students, faculty, facilities and engaged learning.
Every gift to the Will to Lead for Clemson is a gift to Clemson Forever.

Dear Prospective Clemson Tiger:
It is an exciting time to be at Clemson University – one of the Top 25 public universities in
the country. The $1 Billion Will to Lead capital campaign is heading into the homestretch
after a record year for giving, providing amazing financial support to faculty, staff and
students. Applications for admission and the quality of the student body are at an alltime high. A major campus development initiative will add millions of square feet and
position the university for the next 50 years. And, we are nearing the completion of the
roadmap for our next strategic plan — Clemson Forward.
These are all signs that the Clemson Family is stronger than ever. It is critical that we
continue this commitment to excellence as we invite new members into our faculty and
staff. As an institution, we nurture the Clemson Family through our commitment to
certain overarching priorities — academic quality and innovation, individual student
success, public service and economic outreach, and our core values of integrity, honesty
and respect.
Clemson University has accomplished amazing things in the past, and I believe the future
is even brighter, especially with the addition of new talent with innovative ideas. The
experience of being a part of the Clemson Family is unmatched, and we are grateful for
your interest in becoming part of the Clemson experience.
Joe Sherman, Class of 1934, captured the essence of Clemson when he wrote, “There’s
something in these hills where the Blue Ridge yawns its greatness.” I can assure you that
whatever that “something” is — it will stay with you and at this great University forever.
Sincerely,
James P. Clements, Ph.D.
