So rapidly have the old veterans died

the rule. This move is a sad acknowl­
edgment th a t he great reaper is doing
ghastly work in tho ranks and th a t ere
long the Grand Army, whose memories
of great deeds have been perpetuated
with patriotic- zeal for thirty-five years,
will soon lie disbanded liy the inexorable
decree of l’ate. Preparations for the
inevitable end are being made from year
to year by the,little band of veterans in
Mew Jersey, which, with view to handing
down their trophies .to future generations
and preserve them as memorials of the
great epoch when brother fought against
brother, will probably appoint a com­
mittee to present to the legislature next
year a petition for a state room in which
the Ihigs'iuid medals of the New Jersey
department may be forever kept.

from Siberia tells of a horrible massacre

They massacrcd 800 inhabitants, men,
women and children, who were brutally

Practically nobody escaped. Some were
beaten to death, others thrown into the
river nnd still others were hanged. The

Passaic, Wednesday.—A small riot
ccurred a t the Acliescn-Hardcn llandkerr
chief factory this morning. Three strik ­
ers attem pted to return to work. Other
strikers interfered and threvf&lo’nes and
rocks a t them. The police arrested three
strikers, Mary nnd Frances Geenscn and
John Doole. They were taken to police
headquarters, which was surrounded by.
a howling mob demanding th a t the girls
bo released. L ater the prisoners were
arraigned in the police court and fined
five dollars on a charge of interfering
with au olficer.

young chicken weighing about three pounds,
