MSc International Innovation (Engineering)
Blending theory with high impact company collaborations in UK and China
Overview of the Programme
Course Modules
This 2 year full-time MSc International
Innovation (Engineering) encompasses
selected modules in electronics and/or
mechanical engineering. It builds on the
current use of electronics and embedded
software in industry, and the systems and
devices we use on a daily basis.
Mechanical engineering is the basis of just
about anything that has movable parts,
which includes areas like transport
(automotive, railway, aerospace), renewable
energy, medicine and manufacturing.
There are 38 places with bursaries
across six specialist pathways for the
MSc International Innovation
(telecommunications, computer science,
design, engineering, entrepreneurship and
environmental science) and you will become
part of a group of like-minded,
multidisciplinary students, entrepreneurs
and businesses.
Through close inter departmental
collaboration between the Faculty of Science
and Technology, Lancaster University
Management School and the Faculty of Arts
and Social Sciences it will equip students
with a solid foundation of knowledge, skills
and expertise in the areas of technology,
design and management whilst allowing
them to specialise in engineering.
Students need a 2:1 or equivalent degree
in a related technological subject,
depending on the exact modules to
be taken. For electronics modules,
a degree in electronic and electrical
engineering would be required.
•System design and modelling
• Intelligent systems control
• Linking project
Specialist Modules in either:
Electronic Systems including:
•Smart systems
• Advanced embedded systems
• Electrical Power Systems and Modeling
or
Mechanical Engineering including:
•Mechanics and actuators
• Advanced CAD/CAM
• Renewable energy
Company Projects in the UK &
Guangdong Province, China
Students will work on two company
projects, in the UK and in Guangdong
Province, China, where students will spend
6-8 months. With supervision, students will
build upon their academic expertise to
deliver collaborative R&D and
commercialisation projects.
Cultural Immersion
Business, cultural and language seminars
tailored to support non-Chinese and
Chinese speaking students.
Living Allowance/Bursary
Plus modules in:
•Corporate Entrepreneurship
•Design Driven Innovation
•Chinese Language and Culture
(or equivalent for Chinese speakers)
Career Options
Engineering
is at the heart of modern
technology and from the initial system
design through to the manufacturing stage,
engineers must understand the underlying
engineering theory.
Employability of graduates will be further
enhanced by their ability to work internationally
across cultures, and by their ability to work in
both English (the language in which the
programme is delivered) and Chinese.
38 students selected onto the MSc
International Innovation will receive a tax
free award of £16,000 over the duration of
the programme from the Lancaster China
Catalyst Programme, which is funded by
the HEFCE Catalyst Fund and Lancaster
County Council. Tuition fees still apply.
Once the 38 bursaries have been taken,
students may still apply for the course but
successful applicants are likely to need to
secure alternative funding.
