Tech Tip 080015 3xLogic Recommended Hardware Firewall Configuration Bulletin No.: Product Affected: Date: Description: 080015 Vigil Server DVR Systems July 15, 2008 This document describes the hardware firewall configuration required by 3xLogic Inc in order to meet the 3xLogic Inc system Warranty and support requirements. Warning: Connecting the Vigil System DVR directly to the network without a hardware firewall is not recommended and will void the product warranty. Please contact 3xLogic Technical Support prior to connecting the Vigil System DVR to any network. The Vigil Server DVR System uses advanced technology with many features and contains sensitive video data. It is important to shield the system from viruses and other undesired network connectivity using a hardware firewall. With a few configuration steps, the hardware firewall provides full access to the desired network features within the Vigil Server system while providing protection against malicious access. This document is a guide to connecting a Vigil Server DVR System to a WAN, LAN, or ISP network connection using a hardware firewall. For the Vigil System DVR to be able to communicate with remote Vigil applications such as Vigil Client, specific ports must be opened within the hardware firewall. The default port range is TCP 22800-22810, but this can easily be changed, please consult the Vigil Server Users Guide for details. Connect a Cat 5 network cable from the DVR network card to a LAN port on the Firewall Rounter 2. Connect a Cat 5 network cable from the WAN/Internet port on Firewall Router to the ISP Modem 3. Follow the ISP provided instructions to connect the ISP Modem to the Internet IP Addressing: • If no other computers will be using the router, disable the DHCP Server function. If other computers will be also plugging into the router, make sure the DHCP Server is enabled and that the address range is between 100 and 199. These settings can be found in the Firewall Router configuration screen, please consult the Firewall Router users guide for details. • 3xLogic always begins numbering the DVR at .201 This setting is configured in the Windows • Set the private IP address of router to end with .1 This setting can be found in the Firewall Router configuration screen, please consult the Firewall Router users guide for details. Port Forwarding for Remote Access: • Forward Ports 22800 – 22810 to the IP address of the DVR. If you intend to connect to the Vigil Server DVR System from the internet, we strongly recommend choosing a Static IP Address. The Static IP Address does not change and can be used as a permanent IP Address for connecting to the Vigil Server DVR System using remote software such as Vigil Client.
