Vigil Server DVR Systems
July 15, 2008
This document describes the hardware firewall configuration required by
3xLogic Inc in order to meet the 3xLogic Inc system Warranty and support
requirements.
Warning: Connecting the Vigil System DVR directly to the network without
a hardware firewall is not recommended and will void the product
warranty. Please contact 3xLogic Technical Support prior to connecting
the Vigil System DVR to any network.
The Vigil Server DVR System uses advanced technology with many features and contains
sensitive video data. It is important to shield the system from viruses and other undesired
network connectivity using a hardware firewall. With a few configuration steps, the hardware
firewall provides full access to the desired network features within the Vigil Server system
while providing protection against malicious access.
This document is a guide to connecting a Vigil Server DVR System to a WAN, LAN, or ISP
network connection using a hardware firewall. For the Vigil System DVR to be able to
communicate with remote Vigil applications such as Vigil Client, specific ports must be opened
within the hardware firewall. The default port range is TCP 22800-22810, but this can easily be
changed, please consult the Vigil Server Users Guide for details. Please note that connecting
the Vigil DVR System directly to the network without a hardware firewall is not recommended
and will void the product warranty.

ISP Static IP Address vs ISP Dynamic IP Address:
Most Internet Service Providers have service package options for either a Static IP Address or a
Dynamic IP Address. If you intend to connect to the Vigil Server DVR System from the internet,
we strongly recommend choosing a Static IP Address. The Static IP Address does not change
and can be used as a permanent IP Address for connecting to the Vigil Server DVR System
using remote software such as Vigil Client.
