LED Lighting
for Education
Light in buildings where we live and work, is
essential to our wellbeing and productivity.
With increasing pressure for buildings to be
environmentally friendly and energy efficient,
the choice of lighting products has to be carefully
considered. As maintenance costs are
constantly scrutinised, high efficiency,
long life, energy saving LED lighting
provides the perfect solution.

Why LED?
Reduced Carbon Emissions
LED converts up to 80% of energy into light.
This both reduces energy costs and
dramatically reduces carbon emission.
Cost Effective
The true cost of traditional light sources is not
only in its energy consumption. There is also
maintenance over its lifetime, replacement lamps
and disposal costs. With LED, these costs don’t
exist. LED is a Fit-&-Forget solution.
Instant Light & No Flicker
LEDs produce 100% light instantly, with none of
the warm up time required by fluorescent. Plus they
are free of visible flicker - ideal to help prevent
discomfort associated with traditional lighting.
Safe Lighting
LEDs emit minimal Ultra Violet light (UV). UV
light attracts insects and can be harmful to skin,
clothing and artwork. Heat emissions are greatly
reduced with LED, which means they are cool to
touch and perfect for heat sensitive applications.
Long Life
The life of LED is between 4 and 40 times greater
than traditional products.
What’s more, they produce consistent light output
over their entire life.
Durability
LEDs do not contain a filament that can be damaged
by shock and vibration – making LED one of the
most stable light sources available.
Classroom & Staff Room
Classrooms should be well lit to
stimulate and encourage alertness
yet provide a comfortable learning
environment. Amenity areas such as
canteens and break rooms should afford
a relaxing space to unwind.
Lighting controls can be considered to
enhance flexibility of use according to
the natural daylight available and the
occupancy of the space.
Academy

fluorescent lighting
• Designed for surface mounting in class/staff
rooms
• Uses high quality LED array
• Matches fluorescent appearance
• 50,000 hour life with consistent light output

Lecture Theatres, Libraries
& Assembly Halls
Lighting in schools and colleges
should create environments that
support educational objectives,
promoting student comfort, from
primary school to higher education.
Concentration and performance is
essential to learning and a well lit
environment will encourage stimulation
and encourage students to be receptive
and motivated.
OFFICE
LIGHTING
COMPLIANT
Exceeds the requirements of the Society of Light and Lighting’s Lighting Guide 7
(SLL LG7) and EN12464-1;
• 65˚ cut-off angle to limit glare on screens
• UGR of 19 or lower to eliminate discomfort glare to room occupants
In addition to the above, LuxPanel’s can also offer exceptional efficacy of over
140 Luminaire lumens per circuit Watt (Llm/W) whilst providing illuminance and
uniformity in accordance with the requirements of LG7 and EN12464-1. Many other
LED panels can not meet all these requirements.
LuxPanel

• Fast return on investment, low energy
consumption and CO2 emissions
• 50,000 hour life with consistent light output for
the duration
• Possible energy savings of 80% compared to
fluorescent
• Environmentally friendly - contains no mercury
or other toxins. Fully recyclable
• Maintenance free - no lamp replacement
required
Circulation Spaces
Stairways & Corridors
Circulation areas serve many
purposes, from a common room
for students to congregate
in, to a central area between
classrooms. There will often
be corridors and stairs, which
should be carefully lit to
enable safe movement whilst
maintaining contrast with the
learning space.
Platinum Downlights
50,000
• Ideal alternative to CFL downlights
HOURS
• Suitable for 203mm-210mm cutout,
recommended 205mm
• Easy fit positive locating swing tabs
• 50,000 hour life with consistent light output for the duration
• Supplied with white bezel
• Matt & Gloss Reflector available
Aternative, Decorative glass & IP65
bezels available
Walkway
& External Spaces
Due to their nature, these areas are often
constantly lit even though not always
in use. Clever use of simple lighting
controls, can further reduce energy
consumption using integral microwave
sensors programmed to reduce the
lux level and wattage of the luminaire,
to operate at a low light level when
unoccupied. This allows energy to be
saved without reducing the communal
area to darkness, providing a safe lit
environment for users.

• Dusk-till-dawn option - Automatically switches
off at dawn and on at dusk
Stores, Workshops
& Utility Areas
Stores, workshops & utility areas can
be hostile environments for lighting.
Therefore, a lighting design needs to
be carefully considered to create a safe
working area with luminaires made to
withstand the demands of an industrial
environment including high ingress
protection and robust construction.

HOURS
• Stainless steel anti-tamper clips for
extra safety and optional PIR presence detector
available to save energy
• Polycarbonate body and diffuser
• 50,000 hour life with consistent light output
Indoor Sports Hall
Whilst safety is the main concern
when lighting a Sports Hall
environment, consideration should
also be given to an evenly lit space,
so that the playing area is not cast
in shadow, making it difficult for
players to see distance and pace.
The lighting should also provide the
audience an opportunity to enjoy the
game from various angles, so all may
participate in the thrill of the sport.
High Bay

• No maintenance as no lamp
changing required
HOURS
• Instant light output and re-strike unlike
most HID conventional lighting
• No exposed glass components so a safer option
for sports halls
• Recommended for high ceilings

Lighting Controls
Today designers need to consider energy
efficient luminaries combined with
lighting controls to ensure areas are only
being lit when in use.
Lighting should provide a stimulating
yet comfortable environment for its
inhabitants to learn in but be flexible to
accommodate the natural light available.
Stand Alone Lighting Controls
• Automatic control of lighting to help reduce
energy consumption by automatically turning
lighting on and off
• IP Rated versions - protected against water
and dust
• High ceiling mounted PIR - suitable for high
ceilings, such as sports and assembly halls
Range includes:
• Low profile PIR
• Adjustable microwave
• High ceiling mounted PIR
• Batten mount PIR
• Ceiling / wall mounted microwave
Absense + Presence Detection
Presence - Detectors will switch on lighting
automatically when a person enters the area,
and switches off automatically when no
movement.
Absense - Switch light on manually and it
will automatically switch off once there is no
movement detected.
