HARI SCHOOL
Namaste!
I hope all of you are enjoying your summer vacation. As the end of summer looms before us, we are
increasingly excited to begin our New HARI School term. The school will reopen at 10:30 am on Sunday,
Sept 7, 2014. A few key points:

The new School calendar is published on the HARI web site.

Registration will occur on the first day. Please print a registration form from the web site and
bring it to the school on the first day (along with the required fees).

Students in grade I to grade XII will be eligible to enroll in HARI School. Age will no longer be
considered criteria for school enrollment. Students in grade I to grade IV will be in junior class.
Students in grade V to VIII will be in senior class. Students in grade IX to XII will be eligible to
enroll in SAT class and Youth Forum class.

Last year we introduced Bengali language class, evening yoga classes during weekdays and
Chinmaya Mission Bal Vihar program on Sunday evenings. All these classes were very successful.

Students in religion classes have learned about Ramayana and Mahabharata for past two
years. This year our senior religion class students will be introduced to The Bhagwad Gita, the
most important text in Hindu religion.

I encourage adults to come forward and help us with various volunteer activities at the
School. If you want to introduce a new class, please let me know, if time and space permits and
if we have at least 5 students willing to attend the class, we can try to introduce the new class.

Lastly, we have lots of activities planned for this year. I encourage you to continue furthering
your children’s cultural and religious experiences by bringing them to HARI School.

HARI School Director
Mr. Vijay Varadarajan

A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMITTEE
Namaste!
With Lord Rama’s grace and with the guidance from our respected priests and all your blessings we are approaching the end of a successful year. All temple events were celebrated in a grand manner with the help and support of
the enthusiastic volunteers and devotees. We invited many scholars for religious discourses. We will be celebrating
“BAKTHOTSAVAM” from Sept. 27 to Sept. 29, 2014. This is a new event with authentic Brahmotsav programs performed at our HARI temple for the first time.
A very enthusiastic team of committee members and dedicated priests ensure the temple provides proper cultural
and religious service to the community.
The team addressed various maintenance projects this year. The building has served the community well for over
28 years without major maintenance on it. This year, however, started with an emergency-maintenance all on the
well pumps. The harsh winter had taken its toll and the 15+ years old pumps gave up and we suddenly found ourselves without water. But even before we could address the well-pumps issue, parts of the main gate started breaking apart. Apparently, the rubber-seals on the top were damaged (professional opinion is that this occurred “many
moons ago by the nesting woodpeckers”). Over the years, the built up moisture had damaged the wood from the
inside and the winter ice broke loose the wooden pieces from inside. A similar situation was found inside the vacant
priest-quarters and the small entrance-room behind the temple. Both were found severely damaged with leaking
water.
Well, we started addressing the issues, one at a time. We are extremely happy to report to you that by the time
you will receive this HARI Times, all issues will have been addressed fully.
Along the way, the committee continued with the energy efficiency project that was started in 2013. The contract
for replacing the 28+ years old windows was awarded during the summer. At the same time, the project of replacing
the damaged ceiling and lights was also approved. All these projects not only will make the building energy efficient
but will also beautify the building.
During the summer, two national flags and a Sanatan Dharma Dhwaja were added. The flags improved the landscaping of the building tremendously. The project was funded by the “HARI Anniversary Fair” which has now become
a tradition at the temple.
The committee also held a special fundraiser, “Rakhi 5K Run” to help some of these projects. The uniqueness of
Rakhi 5K Run was that it was planned and executed by HARI Youth volunteers. Kudos to all youth volunteers and participants for making it a huge success.
Finally, about the parking situation at HARI: As we all are aware, the parking lot fills up rather quickly at every major event. We have been contemplating several options for the past few years but so far no solution was found viable.
Recently, Kiran Patel, a member of the HARI Advisory Board, proposed the purchase of about three acres land next
door. The BOT members liked the idea but later put that on hold due to the complexity in the approval process. Not
enough details are available at this point to make a sound decision but hopefully we will be able to address this in the
near future.
We thank the HARI community for offering a wonderful opportunity to serve Lord Rama and the community and
hope we have fulfilled your expectations.
If you have any suggestion for improvements of your institution, please contact any of the EC or BOT members or
email us at haritemple@gmail.com
Yours in service,
Mr.Hiten Amin

* Katha Narrator Shri Kaushikji *
Shri Kaushikji is a Ramayan scholar who preaches Ramayan in
simple Hindi. His Ramayan Katha is unique as it draws directly
from the Ramayan and applies into the daily living. He lives in
Ghaziabad and has been the Chairperson of the “Nitya Ramayan
Satsang Sabha” for the past 30+ years. Most of his Katha proceedings go towards various charity works, including Gaushalas,
homes for widows, etc. He has visited USA several times before.
He is a very simple, humble, and learned man. Humility a trait so
talked in Ramayan is his biggest strength. Despite his vast
knowledgebase and wisdom, his entire body language is quiet and
humble. He is a TRUE saint living with his family.

Rakhi Run 5K Report from HARI Community youth:
For years, HARI usually conducts an annual fundraiser event that brings the HARI community
together with dance and music. This year, the responsibility of developing and organizing the
annual fundraiser was given to the HARI youth. We took this great opportunity and responsibility
seriously and came up with the idea of hosting a 5K run/walk, the Rakhi Run 5K. This was a
new way to bring out community together for the cause of making HARI a better place for generations to come.
To our delight, the event received strong attendance (approximately 120 runners/walkers) and
was well received by everyone too. It was truly heartwarming to see all the runners, walkers,
and volunteers interacting with one another before, during, and after the run as one big happy
family. This event truly brought a unique experience to our HARI community. And we have the
runners/walkers, volunteers, HARI EC and BOT, and sponsors to thank for that. Each and every
one of you made this event a worthy one. Our sincerest thank you to all of you for not only making this a successful event, but also for giving us the opportunity to do something for the HARI
we love so dearly.
Yours Sincerely,
