People credited with this unit standard are able to: plan a
simple spreadsheet to provide a solution to a problem;
produce a simple spreadsheet in accordance with the plan;
use the spreadsheet to provide a solution; and evaluate the
spreadsheet.

Candidates are required to plan, produce, use and
evaluate one simple spreadsheet to provide a solution
to a problem. The problem may be either part of the
candidate’s employment tasks (in the case of workplace
assessment) or be a set exercise.

The supplied brief must clearly identify the outcomes to
be met by the solution. The brief must contain
requirements against which the success or otherwise of
the spreadsheet can be evaluated.

Definition
A plan outlines how the requirements of the brief will be
realised. For this unit standard, the plan may be
informal, and it may be more appropriate to produce
evidence of it during task completion rather than prior to
starting the task or project. Evidence of planning may
be oral, written, and/or graphic. For additional

A plan is developed to meet the requirements of a supplied brief.
1.2
The plan identifies the purpose of the spreadsheet.
1.3
The plan includes a basic outline of the spreadsheet specifications and/or
features required to provide a solution.

Produce a simple spreadsheet in accordance with the plan.
performance criteria
2.1
Data is entered and is formatted to produce the required spreadsheet in terms
of cell width, alignment, text, and number formats.
2.2
Spreadsheet cell functions/formulae are entered.
Range:
2.3
to include, but is not limited to - add, subtract, multiply, divide,
sum, average, maximum.
The spreadsheet is saved to a file.

The spreadsheet file is located and opened, and new variables are entered.
3.2
A graph is produced as part of the solution.
3.3
The revised spreadsheet file is printed out in hard copy.

The spreadsheet is checked for appropriate formatting, readability, legibility,
presentation, accuracy, and data integrity.
4.2
The spreadsheet is modified if required and compliance with the brief is
confirmed.
