COACHING: RECOGNITION OF PRIOR ACHIEVEMENT AND LEARNING
In March 2016 Tenchi Ryu withdrew from the British Aikido Board (the Sport England Governing Body for Aikido in the UK).
All Tenchi Ryu coaches have achieved the BAB’s Coaching Award (Coach Level 1), having undertaken a minimum of 2 days classroom training plus practical assessments.
There is an accepted protocol in education that no one should have to re-learn what they already know. It is therefore appropriate that Tenchi Ryu recognises this existing
competence and underpinning knowledge.
Tenchi Ryu will therefore award a Tenchi Ryu Level 1 Coaching Award to all those who hold a BAB CL1 qualification. Those coaches highlighted in bold will be working
towards the Level 2 Coaching Award with immediate effect.
In order to lead a class within Tenchi Ryu the minimum requirement is to hold the Level 1 Coaching Award.
Tutors and Assessors
Sue Ward is fully qualified tutor/assessor/internal verifier currently running her own training company. She delivers courses in sport, fitness and child protection from Level
2 though to Degree Level. She has been trained by the NSPCC with regarding to safeguarding in sport. Sue Ward is therefore accredited through RPL/APA as a Tenchi Ryu
Tutor and Assessor

Brian Stockwell is a fully qualified teacher and assessor and a qualified sports coach UK Tutor. He is also an approved 1 for Sport tutor and assessor. Brian is therefore
accredited through RPL/APA as a Tenchi Ryu Tutor and Assessor

Tenchi Ryu Level 1 Coach
This course provides the basic knowledge and understanding required to lead a
safe aikido session. This is the minimum qualification required to run a class.
This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained on the Level 1 course. It is
designed for those coaches running their own classes; developing themes and
progressive practice. It includes the Tenchi Ryu Coaching Weapons module
