SLOVAKIA Welcome to the European Capital of Culture 2013 INFORMATION FOR ERASMUS AND OTHER FOREIGN STUDENTS Dear students, dear international colleagues, The Faculty of Economics was established on the 8th July 1992 in response to market demand, within the framework of transformation of the Technical University to a "full-fledged" university covering also non-technical disciplines. Faculty is one of the youngest and most progressive faculties of the Technical University of Kosice. The Faculty of Economics is putting great emphasis on international cooperation in the area of research and education, fostering links with institutions in private and public sectors and thus responding to their needs and to the needs of society in general. The effort put into research and internationalisation is reflected also in the evaluation of the Faculty by external agencies. Our efforts have been already recognized by the Academic Ranking and Rating Agency (ARRA, www.arra.sk) several times. The Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Kosice was ranked as the best faculty in Slovakia in the category of economics in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011. We strive to be a sought-after faculty providing education in the spirit of democracy and humanism, leading students to tolerance and the capacity of critical and creative thinking. Košice has around 250 000 inhabitants. It is the European Capital of Culture in 2013. Three universities reside in Košice. The Technical University of Košice was established in 1952. However, university th education in Košice reaches to the 17 century. Current university consists of nine faculties with approximately 16 000 students. The Faculty of Economics was established in 1992 and since 2005 is ranked among the best faculties of economics in Slovakia according to national ranking. Faculty of Economics provides bachelor and master degree in two accredited study programmes: 1) Finance, Banking and Investments 2) Public Administration and Regional Development PhD study is available in two accredited study programmes: 1) Finance 2) Public Administration and Regional Development Foreign students can choose from courses listed below according to their language requirements (Slovak, English, French, and German). The nearest aiport is Kosice - Airport (http://www.airportkosice.sk/). It has good connections to airports in Prague, Vienna and Bratislava. The aiport in Budapest is the second nearest from here. You have to take a train to get to Košice, but it has pretty good connections to all international aiports. If you wish, you can also use trains (http://www.zsr.sk/) or buses (http://cp.atlas.sk/vlak/spojenie/) to get to Košice. Accommodation: University dormitory at Jedlíkova 13 in Košice, 15 min. from the Faculty of Economics by public transport, appr. 90 € /month, more info: http://web.tuke.sk/erasmus/en/accommodation.html Public transport: 0,60 € basic 30-min. ticket, 0,30 € student´s 30-min. ticket; more reductions available using prepaid card (ISIC) for students under 26 years. School canteen: lunches and dinners are available in school canteen near Jedlíkova 13 or in the university campus in several canteens. One meal a day (lunch/dinner) is partially covered by state (e.g. if price of a lunch/dinner is 3,32 €, each Erasmus student under 26 years will be given 1,60 € back using ISIC prepaid card).
