Kumon Of Old Settlers
Math and Reading Center
February 2012
Dear Parents,
One of the key goals of Kumon program is to encourage our students
to achieve grade level and continue to work above grade level. With
the hard-work of our Kumon students, parents and center assistants,
many of our students have achieved this prestigious status. Recently,
Kumon NA announced the Kumon Advanced Student Honor Roll
(ASHR). The following students from our center deserve special
mention as they were recognized as working at 1, 2 or 3 years above
their grade level.

It is truly a great joy and honor to see our students benefitting from the
Kumon program. It reminds me of this saying - “A Little Practice Every
Day Goes a Long Way”.
As always, thank you for being part of Kumon and for your trust in us.
Please remember to check the back side for more important
information, level advancements, and birthdays.

Important Center and Homework Information
It is important that our children learn the importance
of being well prepared before any task. We are
asking for your participation to help our students
learn to come prepared for study at our Kumon
center.
We have noticed a huge difference in the
performance of students who come prepared for
class versus who don't. Students who come prepared
perform better, have better work ethics, and are able
to meet their goals sooner. They are not only more
disciplined and focused but are eager to learn more.
Students who come unprepared to class need extra
time to settle down. Repeatedly, when they come
unprepared, their work is not of good quality;
sometimes, they even start to underestimate
themselves. Many times, when students come to the
center without their homework, pencils and/or
erasers, they are quick to blame their parents for it.
This shows that they are not owning their education
and we all need to work harder to make them
independent without pushing their responsibility on
to others. Therefore, please make sure that they
remember to bring their homework, more than one
sharpened pencil and an eraser - they will be more
prepared to take on the work presented at the center.
This also prevents them from wasting precious
minutes of their center time. Over time, this daily
enforcement will help the students become
independent and own their actions.
Homework
Completion of daily homework is crucial for
success in Kumon. Parents must ensure that
children learn to finish their work each day. This,
in turn, will create better study habits and ensure
steady progress through the levels. Be sure not to
allow children to cram all the work into one or
two sittings. This will only detract from the
effectiveness of the Kumon Method.
Initially, it may be necessary to monitor your
children’s work. Ensure that they:
write their name and the date
indicate accurate starting/finishing times
If a routine is firmly established, children begin to
equate Kumon with regular habits like brushing
their teeth or making their bed. Once this
is achieved, parents
and students are on
Happy
the track to success.
We sincerely
appreciate the hard
work that you all do
to help us help your
child become a
successful self learner.
