Mechanic’s tool kit Tensioning gage Straightedge Shop towels EQUIPMENT CONDITION: Shutdown PROCEDURE: WARNING: Equipment must be shutdown to avoid personnel injury or equipment damage. 1. Inspect belt tension and alignment as follows: a. LOCKOUT/TAGOUT equipment in accordance with ACS plant policies and procedures and test LOCKOUT/TAGOUT. b. Remove belt guard. NOTE: c. NOTE: Belts should always be replaced in sets, even if only one belt is bad. Inspect belt condition for: 1) Sides of belt for fraying 2) Bottom of belt for cracking 3) Local discoloration caused by heat from chafing or rubbing Acceptance Criteria: Apply 14 to 19 pounds (62 to 84 newtons) of force to ultra V-belts and 7 to 11 pounds (31 to 49 newtons) of force to conventional V-belts. The belts should deflect .016 inch per inch (.4mm per mm) of belt span. d. Check belt tension using a tensioning gage. Adjust belt tension by sliding motor/gearbox on slide base. e. Inspect belt sheaves for the following: 1 BELT 01-S1 1) Improper alignment 2) Worn sheave walls 2. 3) Cracks or missing pieces 4) Missing and loose fasteners. f. Replace belt guard. g. Remove LOCKOUT/TAGOUT and return equipment to normal operation. Record any discrepancies or unacceptable conditions. 2 BELT 01-S1
