From XCK to XCS Safety Interlocks
Class 9007
INTRODUCTION
The new generation of safety interlocks, the XCS, is now available and will
replace the current XCK-J, XCK-P and XCK-T safety interlock switches. The
XCS safety interlocks perform the same functions as the current products,
and are easier to select. Selection is easier since many of the features that
were optional on the XCK are now standard on the XCS. Plus we now offer
many new features that were not available in the past.
Figure 1:
OVERVIEW OF FEATURES
Number of Contacts
XCS Safety Interlocks
The XCK safety interlocks were available with either one NO and one NC
contact, or two NC contacts.
With the XCS-A, XCS-C, XCS-E, and XCS-TA interlocks you have a choice
of two NO / one NC, two NC / one NO, or three NC contacts. This allows you
to wire the XCS into safety circuits (for example, using Preventa Safety
Relays) and still have an additional contact for signaling or some other
function. The XCS-E has two additional contacts, one NO and one NC, on
the solenoid (electromagnet) which can be used to signal the status of the
solenoid for locking or unlocking the actuating key. The XCS-PA is available
with either one NO and one NC contact, or two NC contacts.
New Standard Features
The electromagnet versions of the XCK-J switches had two optional items—
a key operated lock for “locking without voltage devices,” and LED pilot lights.
These features are now standard on the XCS-E (electromagnet versions).
Conduit Size and Threading
Identification of the type of conduit opening and threading is now easier, as
the conduit type is incorporated into the part number of the XCS interlock. For
the XCK devices there was a suffix to some part numbers (for example, H7
or H29) but this “H” number may or may not have appeared on the device.
With the XCS, the conduit opening is easy to identify and order. Other
features of the new XCS safety interlocks can be found in Catalog
9007CT9002.

Cross Reference from XCK to XCS
Dimensions
The only significant dimensional differences
between the XCK and XCS interlocks are with
the XCS-E electromagnet types and the
XCS-TA. The dimensional differences are
indicated in Table 1 and Table 2.
The XCK-J had the electromagnet mounted on
top of the switch base. This made the overall
switch longer and required the solenoid to be
wired separately from the switch base contacts.
The XCS-E has the solenoid inside the switch
enclosure making the solenoid easier to wire
and allowing all of the wiring to come in through
one conduit opening. The XCS-E also has
additional contacts for indicating the status of
the solenoid. To accommodate these features,
the XCS is wider than the XCK-J, although not
as long.
The XCS-TA is longer and wider than the XCKT to accommodate the additional contact. (The
XCK-T has two contacts, the XCS-TA has
three.)

Notes to Table 3:
The first XCS column in the cross reference
tables indicates the preferred recommended
replacement. The preferred replacement
replaces the widest number of devices in the
older XCK line. The second XCS column
identifies alternate devices which also meet
the criteria of the XCK device in the left-hand
column.
