500G White Almond Marzipan. Brown
Marzipan Food Colouring Paste. Normal
Black food colouring. Cocktail stick, Mixing
bowl
Carefully cut the marzipan into quarters and
put one quarter into the mixing bowl. Leave
the remaining three quarters of marzipan in
its packet.
Put a very little amount of the food
colouring onto the marzipan in the bowl.
If you use a paste as I have you may
need to use the wrong end of a small
spoon to get it out the pot.
Warning – messy bit! Using your hands, mix
the marzipan and colouring together until the
marzipan is a solid brown colour. Put this
lump of marzipan onto a plate.
Put one of the remaining quarters of
white marzipan into the bowl. Repeat
steps 2 and 3, but this time use slightly
more brown colouring to give a darker
colour. Now add black colouring to
another of the quarters. You should now
have a lump of light brown, dark brown
and black marzipan and a lump of white
marzipan left over.
To make a body choose which brown you
want the body to be and break off a
lump. Roll it into a ball, and then roll it
back and forth to make it slightly longer
and less round looking.
Break of another smaller lump for the
head, roll it into a ball. Without pulling it
off, pull out a small lump on the ball to
make it look like a nose, you may need to
play around with it here to get it looking
right.
Using the other brown marzipan break off
a very small amount. Roll it into a ball.
Using your thumb press down on it so
that it is virtually flat. You then need to
make it into a raindrop shape by
stretching it on one end a little. You need
to make two of these for the ears. When
you have finished shaping them, stick
them onto the head.
Using a very small amount of white
marzipan you need to roll two small balls
and flatten them for the eyes. Using black
marzipan, roll two smaller balls and add
these for the pupils. Then using black, roll
a very small ball for the nose and use
brown marzipan of your choice to make a
long thin tail and make four little legs
Stick all these bits on to your pup.
Carefully poke two holes in the nose and
one in each black part of the eyes with a
cocktail stick. If you want your dog to
look furry you can use the cocktail stick
to make lots of little marks all over the
surface. Don't press too hard though, and
make sure all your marks go in the same
direction.
Here is my finished puppyl. If you are not
going to eat your marzipan animal within
a couple of days it's probably best to
store it in an airtight container.
I had enough marzipan left over to make
another much bigger one! Don't forget
that you can use other food colours if
you want, or make different animals it's
exactly the same method.
