SYSTEMS INTRODUCTION
Boral Concealed Ceiling Systems
Boral Concealed Ceiling Systems are typically used for commercial
and industrial applications but can also be used in residential
buildings that allow big enough ceiling voids to accommodate the
ceiling system. Boral Concealed Ceiling Systems not only provide
beautiful flush flat ceilings but can also provide fire protection and
sound insulation.
Boral Close-Fit Concealed Ceiling
Systems
Boral Close-Fit Concealed Ceilings are typically for commercial
and residential applications where loss of room height must be
kept to a minimum. The metal frame ceiling system is fixed directly
to the concrete soffit providing both standard and fire protection
ceilings.
Boral AlphaBOARD
Boral AlphaBOARD are factory made pre-shaped plasterboard
profiles which allow for easier creation of aesthetic ceilings when
compared with traditional plasterboard methods.
Boral AlphaBOARD prefabricated profiles come in four
different shapes, L-Box, W-Box, Z-Box and U-Box, together they
provide a wide range of aesthetic solutions ranging from, junction
for stepped ceilings, junction for multiple stepped ceilings, stepped
recess for curtain rails and stepped recess for lighting.
Boral Access Panel
Boral Access Panel is a readymade high quality access panel
that is easily incorporated into plasterboard ceilings providing easy
access to mechanical and electrical services above the ceiling.
Boral WeatherSTOP
Boral WeatherSTOP board is a high performance plasterboard
specially designed for external eave ceiling application on
buildings. Boral WeatherSTOP board has a low water
absorption core and a low water absorption back paper making it
ideally suited for eave application where high humidity
conditions can exist.
Boral Exposed Grid Ceiling System
Boral Exposed Grid Ceiling System is typically used for commercial
and industrial applications which require aesthetic ceiling finishes
or easy access to the ceiling void above. The system consists
of high quality pre-painted metal sections that form a grid when
locked together into which high quality Boral Ceiling Tiles can be
installed.
PERFORMANCE TABLES - INTRODUCTION
Ceiling Design
Fire Rating And Acoustics
Each Boral ceiling system is carefully designed to
maximise the engineering performance of each
ceiling component.
With many years of fire and acoustic testing around
the world Boral has accumulated a wealth of expertise
and knowledge together with a wide range of system
test reports.
Maximum centres shown for ceiling cross runners,
main runners, hangers and brackets are based on
a limiting deflection criteria of L/360 allowing for
loading of plasterboard and insulation as show in the
performance tables.
If an additional load will be applied to the ceiling
contact Boral Technical Support Centre.

Introduction
Boral Concealed Ceiling
Systems
Conceiled Ceiling System
Boral Metal

Boral Concealed Ceiling Systems are
typically used for commercial and industrial
applications but can also be used in
residential buildings that allow big enough
ceiling voids to accommodate the ceiling
system. Boral Concealed Ceiling Systems
not only provide beautiful flush flat ceilings
but can also provide fire protection and
sound insulation.
Boral Concealed Ceiling Systems are
designed with simple fast clip together
components for easy installation and
ceiling alignment. Each ceiling component
has been specially engineered to optimise
ceiling strength, rigidity and loading
performance.
Ceiling voids can also be varied to
accommodate mechanical and electrical
services and air-conditioning ducting. All
services installed above the ceiling must
be supported by the structure above and
not by the concealed ceiling system.

Used for joining Boral Universal Channels
together to extend in length. When used
to join two Universal Channels for cross
runners, no additional fixing is required.
Cross runner position
When used to join two Universal Channels for
main runners the Boral Smart Connector
must be secured to the main runners
using four Boral Wafer Head Self Tapping
Screws as shown opposite.
Main runner position
Also used for horizontal to vertical
connections. Cut out sides of Boral Smart
Connector at the pre-punched slots, bend
the connector to a 90o angle, insert into
runners and screw fix both runners to the
connector.
Jointing
All joints should be taped and jointed as specified in this manual, refer to Finishing Solutions for details.

CLOSE - FIT CONCEALED CEILING SYSTEM
Introduction
Boral Close - Fit Concealed
Ceiling Systems
Close-Fit Conceiled Ceiling System
Boral Close - Fit Concealed Ceiling Systems
are typically for commercial and residential
applications where loss of room height
must be kept to a minimum.
These systems are fixed directly to the
existing concrete soffit allowing a cavity
width between soffit and back of
plasterboard ranging from 20mm to 70mm.
This system also lends itself to
overboarding existing cement render and
plaster ceilings where improved aesthetics
or acoustic performance is required.

decoration or textured finishes.
Performance
The selection of the ceiling system and
boarding will depend on the performance
required for fire resistance, refer to
performance tables on page 5 to 6 in

Screw Fixing Of Plasterboard
Boral Plasterboards are screw fixed using
Boral Plasterboard Self Tapping Screws
at 230mm centres in field of board and
at 150mm centres around perimeter of
ceiling and at cut ends of boards.
Installing screws
Drive screws squarely through plasterboard
and into the framing until screw head is
just recessed below the plasterboard
surface, screws should not break through
the plasterboard paper.

WEATHERSTOP
Introduction
Boral WeatherSTOP plasterboard is
a high performance board specially
designed for external eave ceiling
application on buildings. Boral
WeatherSTOP board has a low water
absorption core and a low water
absorption back paper making it ideally
suited for eave application where high
humidity conditions can exist.
Eaves Ceiling Using Boral WeatherSTOP and Boral
Concealed Cealing System
Boral WeatherSTOP board comes in a
9mm thickness and in 5 different board
designs, plain board and 4 boards with
pre-punched patterns to provide air
ventilation behind the eave ceiling and to
give modern aesthetic looks to the eave
ceiling. These boards can be mixed and
matched to provide different aesthetic
looks.
Performance
Boral WeatherSTOP board has a low
water absorption of just 3% when tested
to BS 1230: Gypsum plasterboard Part 1,
and passes mould resistance when tested
in accordance to ASTM D3273: Standard
Test Method for Resistance to Growth of
Mould on the Surface of Interior Coatings
in a Environmental Chamber.

EXPOSED GRID CEILING SYSTEM
Introduction
Boral Exposed Grid Ceiling
System
Exposed Grid Ceiling
Boral Exposed Grid Ceiling System is
typically used for commercial and industrial
applications which require aesthetic ceiling
finishes or easy access to the ceiling void
above.
The system consists of high quality
pre-painted metal sections that form
a grid when easily locked together into
which high quality Boral ceiling tiles can be
installed.
The system is suspended from soffits
by using the Boral hanger system which
incorporates the Boral Adjusting Spring
Clip for easy adjustments to ceiling
flatness during installation.
