First Generation
1. Thomas Bannister was born in 1767. He died. Using the Kenton Parish microfiche from the Suffolk County records
office in Ipswitch, England, I couldn't find a Thomas Bannister married to Mary English - only a Thomas Bannister married
to a Mary Fuller who had a son William Bannister - who married a Marry Inglish or English. The originals were ambiguous
as to the spelling - with the E and the I on top of each other. Not sure which one was being crossed out. I tend to think the I
was the correct one, Inglish..
Thomas Bannister and Mary Fuller were married in 1785 in Krakow, POLAND Possibly. A date of 1875 was found in the
Bannister book - not likely. A distant relative emailed me indicating they probably switched the 8 and the 7 around, so it
should be 1785, which I have assumed. Mary Fuller was born in 1767.

Africa or India. The only thing known of Thomas ( or William) is that he went away to war in either Africa or India and
never returned. His son Charles was 4 years old when he passed away. This is how his death date is calculated. ...... After
looking at the archives in Suffolk, England, I think William Bannister - the son of Thomas Bannister and Mary Fuller, was
the actual person who died in Africa or India.
William Bannister and Mary English/Inglish were married on 21 Mar 1808 in Kenton, Suffolk England. Mary
English/Inglish was born in 1790 in England. She died in Canada. She was buried in Onondaga Baptist Church, Wentworth
County, Canada. Being widowed since 1824, Mary set out for Canada in 1836. Together with her family of 1 daughter and 6
sons, set sail from England to Canada on a sailing vessel. After a six weeks' voyage they landed in Canada and settled at
"The Fifties", now known as Winona, with about 5 pounds of money, "but with stout hearts and much determination". The
grandchildren of the 6 brothers and 1 sister often heard them speak of working for a penny a day and board in England.
Shortly after arriving in Canada, the Mackenzie Rebellion broke out in Upper Canada and the four eldest sons were called to
take up arms and go to war. The mother, with the rest of the family were bundled into a sleigh and taken back into the
woods where they were out of danger. Fortunately the war was of short duration and they were soon re-united again.

Third Generation
3. William Bannister (William-2, Thomas-1) was born on 1 May 1808 in Kenton, Suffolk England. He was
christened on 20 Nov 1808 in Kenton, Suffolk England. He died in Nov 1891 at the age of 83 in Vanessa,
Windham Township, Canada. At the time of his passing he had three sons and two daughters living almost in
sight of the old home, William, James, Robert, Martha, and Maria. William was a Farmer. After settling in
Winona ("The Fifties") for 21 years, they, with their family, moved west to Windham Township in 1857 and
settled on a farm of 166 acres at Vanessa (then known as Bethany), and as he was a great lover of horses he
took with him a fine team. The farm was well wooded with fine pine trees which the father and eldest sons
cut down and with the help of a yoke of oxen, rolled in heaps to be burned, trees that today would be worth
considerable money. There they built the home which after a few years was destroyed by fire, and was again rebuilt larger
and better...... In politics he was a staunch Conservative, and the writer of "The Bannister Family" (Mrs Martha Cooper from
Ont. Canada, a Niece) was told by one who grew up with the boys, and afterwards married into the family, that he never
heard one of them ever utter an oath.
William Bannister and Mary Church were married in 1834 in Suffolk, England. They were of Baptist faith, being members
of the Scotland Baptist Church. The father was very strict in his belief and was often referred to as the "Old School Baptist".
A story was told that when William and his wife arrived in Canada, he had only fifty cents in his pocket. He loaned this to a
man who had a sick wife. This money was not returned. Mary Church was born on 17 Dec 1813 in England. She died in
Aug 1881 at the age of 67 in Vanessa, Windham Township, Canada. She was a Clothes Maker. She was a spinner and
weaver of fancy flannel for the children's dresses and the men's shirts and full cloth for the men's wear and blankets for the
house. She was also a great knitter of fancy mittens and lace.

Stoney Creek, and the city of Hamilton to the village of Ancaster, he saw the land he liked. Robert
Bannister's history was written by Mrs. Martha Pearl Cooper (BANNISTER), grand-daughter
Robert Bannister and Mary Pierce (Cummins or Fielder) were married on 11 Jun 1842. They settled in a newly built little log
house, long before railways, steamships, and steel plows were known in Canada. The house was a home to four generations
of Bannisters. It started as a log cabin but was improved with each generation. Her headstone refers to her husband as "Robi

respected by all who knew her and was a member of the Baptist Church for thirty years. Although of a quiet, retired
disposition, her Christian work in the church was admired by all. She was the mother of twelve children.

8. Charles Bannister (William-2, Thomas-1) was born on 5 Nov 1820 in Suffolk, England. He died on 21
Aug 1908 at the age of 87. He was a Shoemaker. Charles was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Brant County,
Canada. His father died when he was 4 years old. In 1836, he, with his mother and five brothers, came to
Canada, to what was then known as "The Fifty", now Winona, in Wentworth County, where he learned the
trade of shoemaking.

In the spring of 1851, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bannister moved to Norfolk County and settled on a hundred acre farm, still
known as "Pine Grove Farm". They cut the logs and built a twenty-two room house. In the year 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Bannister celebrated their Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary. Both were in good health, though the former was confined to his
chair, and the latter blind for thirty years. Charles survived his brothers, although his four brothers all passed their eightieth
birthday. Ann Dale, daughter of George Dale and Mary Heaton, was born on 28 Sep 1828 in Yorkshire, England. She died
on 23 May 1910 at the age of 81 in Oakland Cemetery, Brant County, Canada. She had come from England with her mother

Buffalo State Hospital in New York City. She became a member of the staff of the Women's Hospital in

she went to the village of Saranac Lake, N.Y., at Trudeau Sanatorium. Later she went to Ray Brook,
