Instead, maximum m us se should b be made of Bentley’s re eferencing ccapabilities to enable co ollaborative working in a BIM envirronment, inc cluding worrking practic ces and team man nagement as well as th he technolog gical solutio ons coveredd by the rem mit of this docum ment. This section deals wiith the princciples of sub bdividing a model for thhe purposes s of: • multi-user access s, • opera ational efficie ency on larg ge projects, • inter-d disciplinary collaboratio on. The follow wing practices shall be followed: • No mo ore than on ne floor or fa açade shall be modelle ed in a singlle Design file. • A mod del file shall contain da ata from one e discipline / project staakeholder only o (altho ough excepttions may a pply for Buiilding Servic ces where m multiple disciplines conve erge). • Drawiing Models will be publlished to se eparate files s and shouldd not be sto ored as multip ple models within w a sing gle containe er file. No more m than oone Drawing g Model will be e stored in each e file. Th his is to maximise the effectivenes e ss of Bentle ey’s refere encing capa abilities and to allow mu ulti-user acc cess to all aaspects of the projecct. • Sheett Models will be create d as separa ate files and d should noot be stored as multip ple models within w a sing gle containe er file. No more m than oone Sheet Model M will be e stored in each e file to allow for da ata tracking and drawinng managem ment. • In ord der to avoid duplication n or co-ordin nation errors s, clear defiinition of the e data ownership throug ghout the liffe of the pro oject shall be defined aand docume ented. Eleme ent ownersh hip may tran nsfer during g the projec ct time-line – this shall be expliccitly identifie ed in the Pro oject BIM Execution E Plan. • Where e multiple models m makke up a sing gle project, a container model should be consid dered, whos se function is to link the various assemblies ttogether forr coordination/clas sh detection n purposes. The BIM B will be made m up of a series of 3D Design n Files (1). The re elevant files s are refere nced into a single “Container” filee (2). This is s the locatio on from whe ere the Dyn namic View ws (3) are created. Whiile it is poss sible to create e Dynamic Views V direcctly in the 3D D Design Fiile, from othher Saved Views V or even from a Sheet Model, u using a Conttainer file allows you too manage th he Viewss more easily (you do n not need to keep jumping betweenn references) and it AEC(UK))BIMProtocolF ForBentleyABD D-v2.0.docx Pa age 9 of 23 AEC (UK K) BIM Protoco ol for Bentley AECOsim A Bui lding Designe er ems with pe eople remov ving or adding referencces to the working w avoidss any proble files. When n the Dynam mic Views a re created, a Drawing Model file (4) is also. You could create thes se within the e Containerr file, but as s these mayy need to be e edited, or issued to external consulttants, it is better b to kee ep them as separate files. The Drawing D Models are the en referenced into the Design Moddel of a She eet File (5). This is neces ssary to pro ovide DWG compatibilitty. As it is uunlikely that any projecct contains only o 3D datta, 2D Model data (7) can c also bee referenced d into here if necessary y.
