(RUET), Bangladesh in 2000 and M. Sc. Eng. and Dr. Eng. Degrees from Kitami Institute of Technology,
Japan, in 2005 and 2008 respectively, all in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His PhD research
work focused on wind farm stabilization from the viewpoint of LVRT and frequency fluctuation.
Presently he is doing research works under the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)
Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the Kitami Institute of Technology, Japan. His research interests
are power system, electrical machine, FACTS, energy storage system (ESS), wind generator
stabilization, and HVDC system. He has published more than 18 international journals and around 30
refereed international conferences including invited speech in Japan-Korea Joint Chapter Seminar
(2009). He has published a book (co-authored with Prof. J. Tamura and Prof. T. Murata) “Stability
Augmentation of a Grid-connected Wind Farm” from Springer-Verlag London, in October 2008. His
biography has been included to “Marquis Who’s Who” in the world for its 27th edition. Dr. Muyeen is
the member of IEEJ, and IEEE.
Junji Tamura received his B. Sc. Eng. Degree from Muroran Institute of Technology, Japan, in 1979 and
M.Sc. Eng. and Dr. Eng. degrees from Hokkaido University, Japan, in 1981 and 1984 respectively, all in
electrical engineering. In 1984, he became a lecturer and in 1986, an associate professor at the Kitami
Institute of Technology, Japan. Currently he is a professor at the Kitami Institute of Technology. He is
the senior member of IEEE.

Hany M. Hasanien received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering from Ain Shams
University, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo, Egypt, in 1999, 2004 and 2007 respectively. His PhD research
work focused on the performance enhancement of switched reluctance motors. Currently, he is an
Assistant Professor at the Electrical Power and Machines Dept., Ain Shams University. His research
interests include machine design, modern control techniques, electrical drives, artificial intelligent
applications on electrical machines, renewable energy applications and digital control-based
microcontrollers.
Dr. Hany M. Hasanien is a member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and
also of Power & Energy Society (PES). He is a reviewer of the Institution of Engineering and Technology
(IET), Renewable Power Generation (RPG) and also of many IEEE International Conferences such as
International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM) and International Electric Machines and Drives
Conference (IEMDC). He has published in many international journals and conferences.
Switched Reluctance Machine
This book provides, with a modern approach, a clear accurate and comprehensive analysis
of all aspects related to the Switched Reluctance Machines (SRM). It includes the
construction and steady state operations of SRM as motor and as generator, the advanced
speed control of SRM, the problem of the torque ripples and acoustic noise and vibrations
and their minimization. Most of the chapters of the book are centered on a particular tool
applicable to switched reluctance machines. Besides the general discussion on the tool,
detailed modeling and a control strategy for that system are discussed. The chapters are
not limited to modeling and control systems of different types of tools, but incorporate
extensive simulation results that will be very helpful to students. For the simulation
analysis, the most popular digital simulator for electric power system (Matlab® toolbox) is
used. The book is written in a somewhat tutorial style suitable for engineering students and
professionals who are working with switched reluctance machines. It is also intended to be
used by anyone with a good background in mathematics and physics who wants to be an
expert in the field of switched reluctance machines.
