The theme for the Forum is “IBD in the Asia Pacific – Time to Move Forward”. It is with great pleasure for us to welcome one and all to come join us in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for this focused monothematic meeting on IBD. IBD has become an emergent disease in Asia. There are many special considerations before the diagnosis of IBD is made locally. Many diagnostic and therapeutic options remain elusive in different parts of Asia. Therefore, it is essential to have a meeting of scientific minds dedicated to the needs of practitioners within Asia. We need to learn from each other, share knowledge and best local practices to optimally manage our patients. Chiang Mai, the old capital city of the Lanna Kingdom, is Thailand’s principal Northern Province. Dating back more than 700 years, Chiang Mai, the second largest metropolitan, next to Bangkok was originally named “Nopburi Srinakornping Chiangmai”, meaning the new city. Chiang Mai is a city of distinct beauty that has its own cultural heritage, along with its numerous ancient temples and building, and its handicrafts. Thanks to the majestic mountains and valleys and its beautiful scenery, Chiang Mai offers hills, mountain streams, lakes, field, waterfalls, caves, hill tribe villages, orchid, butterfly farms, elephant camps, trekking tours and river rafting expeditions. We hope that her charms will provide a beautiful backdrop for all of us to foster networks for future collaboration to improve our practice for this niched but important discipline in Gastroenterology. On behalf of Professor Dr Kentaro Sugano, President of APAGE, and Professor Dr Varocha Mahachai, President of GAT, the Organising Committee would like to welcome everyone who has interest and interaction with IBD patients to come forth and join us in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is with a sense of pride that the APAGE in conjunction with the Gastroenterological Association of Thailand (GAT) is organising this focused monothematic meeting on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) to be held on 26th & 27th August 2016 at the ShangriLa Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The theme for the Forum is “IBD in the Asia Pacific – Time to Move Forward”. This two-day meeting will follow the series of meetings organised by the IBD Subcommittee previously and will focus on clinical issues and participation of clinicians principally from the South East Asian region. We target to have 200 key opinion leaders and clinicians to attend this meeting. I wish to congratulate the Organising Committee, both international and local, for drawing up a very attractive and comprehensive programme. I would also like to thank the GAT, in particular Professor Dr Varocha Mahachai, in this collaborative effort. I wish everyone an enjoyable stay in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for this meeting. Professor Dr Kentaro Sugano President, Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology A P A GE 2 nd Clinical For um on 3 Inflam ma t o r y Bow e l D i s ea s e Message from President of the Gastroenterological Association of Thailand On behalf of the Gastroenterological Association of Thailand, I would like to cordially welcome all the faculty members and participants of the APAGE Second Clinical Forum on IBD conference in Chiangmai 26th - 27th August, 2016, at the Shangri-La Hotel. This conference is under the leaderships of Dr Eddy CJ Ooi, and Professor Dr Pisaln Mairiang which follows the GAT mid-year meeting. Professor Dr Ida Hilmi has planned an exceptional scientific programme involving many experts from the Asia-Pacific region along with the international speakers. This joint effort in the region will strengthen the academic interests in IBD leading to better understanding and awareness of the diseases, optimisation of patient care, and collaboration and networking in the field of IBD. Chiangmai is the second largest city in Thailand, well-known as the ‘cultural capital’ of Thailand. It is situated in the northern part of Thailand, enriched with culture, temples, traditional handicraft, exotic cuisine and beautiful mountainous sceneries. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Professor Dr Kentaro Sugano and Dr Eddy CJ Ooi for allowing us to be a part of this very important activity in the region.
