7SR45 – Argus
Self Powered Overcurrent Protection Relay
The 7SR45 self powered overcurrent and
earth fault protection relay is primarily
intended for use in Ring Main Units.
The 7SR45 numeric relay provides both definite time
and inverse time overcurrent and earth fault
protection functions. The 4 current inputs are
designed to ensure sensitivity with a minimum
operate setting of 0.2 x In. The compact non drawout design provides front fascia navigation keys, LCD
display and front USB port for parameterisation.
The relay is powered directly by the current
transformers and does not require connection to an
auxiliary supply. Configuration can be done from the
fascia or via Reydisp Evolution PC Software,
available to download from the website.

First Delivery of Reyrolle 7SR1x
Argus OC & EF Relays with IEC
61850 Communications
The first 7SR1x Argus
OC & EF devices with
integral IEC 61850
communications have
been delivered for a
contract in the
Sultanate of Oman.
A total of 31-pieces of 7SR11 Argus non-directional
OC & EF and 7SR12 Argus directional OC & EF relays
were provided to Muscat Electricity Distribution
Company (MEDC) for their Al-Ghubra North Project.
The relays were supplied via Al Hassan Switchgear
Manufacturing Company LLC (AHSG) who are based
in Muscat and are one of the largest established and
integrated manufacturers in the Gulf Region in terms
of turnover, product range and technology.
MEDC is responsible for the distribution and supply
of electricity in the Governorate of Muscat as per the
license granted by the Authority for Electricity
Regulation in Oman.
MEDC provides electricity for all residential,
commercial, industrial, agricultural and Government
sectors in the Muscat area.

The sales training course is aimed for EA people who will
work in the offer preparation and sales persons providing
an overview of the product range, and a basic hands on
for operating the relays and software tools.
A detailed agenda, time table, information about the
location, will be provided closer to the time.
All trainings are free of charge (except travel expenses and
accommodation) and have the aim to support our regional
partners with the necessary knowledge to work
autonomously and successfully in the business field of EA.

Load Blinders
Growth of Distributed Generation
Load Blinders are used with overcurrent
elements to block tripping during periods
of high reverse load currents that can
occur in distribution networks.
GENERATORS
One of the major factors contributing to
high reverse load conditions is an increase
of installed distributed generation capacity
which can feed power back into the
network contrary to the normal direction
of power flow. This can result in current
levels above the relay setting and can
cause tripping of overcurrent elements.

Load Blinders
Growth of Distributed Generation
3 Phase Load Blinder
The 3-Phase Load Blinder is intended to block protection only during definable allowable
system power flow conditions i.e. a 21LB-3P blocking signal is only issued when:
¡¡ Positive Sequence Voltage Vpps is not significantly reduced i.e. is above the 21LB-3P
VPPS Setting AND
¡¡ Negative Sequence Current Inps is lower than 21LB-3P INPS Setting AND
¡¡ The impedance measured in all phases is within the operate zone
¡¡ Zpps is calculated from Vpps and Ipps. The calculated Zpps is used to determine if the
impedance is in the operate zone i.e. greater than the 21LB-3P Impedance setting and
less than the 21LB-3P Angle settings. Suitable settings can be chosen to provide
overcurrent blocking in the forward or reverse directions.

Single Phase Load Blinder
The single phase load blinder can provide phase segregated blocking. The blinder is
operated when:
¡¡ Positive Sequence Voltage Vpps is not significantly changed i.e. is above the 21LB-1P
VPPS setting AND
¡¡ Zero Sequence Current Izps is lower than 21LB-1P IZPS Setting AND
¡¡ The impedance measured per phase is within the operate zone
¡¡ Zphase is calculated from Vphase (peak) and Iphase (peak). The calculated Zphase is
used to determine if the impedance for that phase is in the operate zone i.e. greater
than 21LB-1P Impedance setting and less than 21LB-1P Angle settings.

Conference 2015 was held at
The Grand Ho Tram Strip, Ho
Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Organised by Siemens EA Head Quarters, the event was
attended by 40 participants from all over the Asia Pacific
Region. Topics discussed during the conference included
updates from EA PRO and SYS products and solutions,
Manufacturing, Repairs & Returns / Product Quality, Cross
Border Management and New Technologies. Team
Building activities and Workshops were also part of the
agenda. Reyrolle product updates were presented by an
