Location- All over the world countries depend on the use of fossil
fuel energy for things like electricity, transportation, and the
heating and cooling of homes and buildings
What is the problem?- Countries all over the world are dependent
on fossil fuels. For example, the U.S. uses fossil fuels for more than
85% of all energy used in the U.S.
Why is it a problem?- Humans are consuming non-renewable
fossil fuels at a much faster rate than they are being produced by
the slow process of making fossil fuels. Humans are increasingly
dependent on a shrinking supply of fossil fuels
What is the ecological impact?- In the U.S., the burning of fossil
fuels is responsible for more than 90% of greenhouse gas
emissions. The increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases
contribute to global warming. The burning of fossil fuels also
releases other air pollutants, like sulfuric, carbonic, and nitric
acids which fall on the earth as acid rain.

How have humans specifically caused this
ecological problem?- Humans have caused this
problem by their burning of massive amounts
of fossil fuel, this burning of which is releasing
large amounts of greenhouse gas and other air
pollutants.

Alternative Sources of Energy- Alternative
energy sources are sources of energy that don’t
have the undesired effects of energy sources
like fossil fuels. Alternative energy sources are
renewable and have lower carbon emissions
compared to conventional energy sources.
Examples include, biomass energy, wind
energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, and
hydroelectric energy.

Cutting Down on Amounts- Another solution is
that we can cut down on the amount of fossil fuels
that we use. For one we can cut down oil
dependency by carpooling or riding our bikes to
get places. Also we can use less electricity, which
would cut down on using fossil fuels to create that
electricity. We can do this by, turning off lights and
other electronics when we leave a room. We can
also choose not to use air conditioners, by opening
windows when it is warm in our houses. Finally,
we can better insulate homes so that we won’t
have to use natural gas to heat homes.

In our opinion the use of alternative sources of
fuel is the best solution. Cutting down the use
of fossil fuels lessens the problem, but it does
not solve it. We would still be putting
pollutants in the air and using up the shrinking
supply of fossil fuels. Switching to a new,
renewable fuel source would solve the problem
of a depleted fuel source, and would also
greatly reduce the amount of greenhouse
emissions, which would help lessen the impact
of global warming.
