A short biography Dr.Jamila Taiseer Al Abri Director of Department of Family and Community Health, Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman. Dr.Jamila Al-Abri is a holder of Master of Public Health from University of New South Wales, Sydney and a future PhD student in University of Liverpool. She has leadership skills and background in obstetric and women's health. She is extensively involved in policy-making, programme planning, implementation and evaluation of public health programmes at national level in particular women's and children health programmes. Currently she is the director of department of Family and Community Health in Ministry of Health in Oman responsible for planning and supervising of women and Child health programs at national level. She is extensively contributed in development of guidelines, training and Health Education material related to women health and adolescent health. She is working also with international organizations and other sectors like Ministry of Social Development on issues related to women's and child health. Dr.Jamila is also a member in the National Committee for implementation of Convention of Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW convention) participated in discussion of first country report in Geneva in 2011 and a member in National Committee for implementation of Convention of Right of Child (CRC). She is also the national focal point for implementation of global action plan of ending preventable newborn deaths. She participated in various international meeting such World Health Assembly in 2014. She participated in Stakeholders Meeting to Develop the Regional Action Plan for Implementation of the Regional Strategy for Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Infections in EMRO for 2009 to 2015 and as temporary advisor in the Technical working group on the elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV in EMRO region- in 2012 to develop Regional Strategy for elimination of Mother to child transmission of HIV. Since 2008 Dr.Jamila acts as National Supervisor in Oman for the Multicenter International Fetal and Newborn Growth Standards for the 21st Century (Intergrowth 21st) the study which is run by Oxford University in eight countries. She was selected as team leader for Strategic Study of Women's and Children's Health in Oman which is part of long term Health Vision for Sultanate of Oman titled as Health Vision 2050.
